Market 455: Speciale 10120 00657 at Gooding – Pinnacle of Giulietta elegance!

Update 2/2/13:  Sold for $90K plus fees.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00657, 00120*00911.  This fine example of an SS is due to be auctioned in a few days in Scottsdale.  Not sure why the high estimate for this one ($160,000) is so much lower than the Giulia they are auctioning ($225,000), but hey, so it goes.

Looks really good, but then some guy probably got a decent pay check for taking this and a few other great shots for the catalog.  Accessory steering wheel?  Great shut lines.

Market 205: Giulietta Spider project in Washington

Update 1/10/13:  It runs and stops.  Hurray – let’s put it back on eBay.  Starting price is now $13,000.  It’s not a Veloce, it’s rusty (if you look closely at the underside pictures you can see finger trails where someone took a bathroom caulk approach to pushing filler into rusty areas before undercoating the thing) and unless you have a complement of attributes seldom found in one single person, it will be a confounding factor in your life.

Screen Shot 2013-01-10 at 12.22.20 AM

Serious garage action here.  rear end sits really high -stuff must be frozen under there.

They’re hanging up the mop on this one…

Screen Shot 2013-01-10 at 12.21.36 AM

One is forced to concede improvements have occurred.

Update 2/5/12:  This car is doing another tour of eBay -in what will likely be a decaying series of ending prices.  The last result of $6901 was pretty reasonable for a scruffy, loosely assembled project with the wrong motor.

Update 1/24/12: Close maybe, but no sale.

Ramble 1: Parallel universes

1/4/13:  Brad sent me this picture of his Gilera and Spiders.  Nice!  He also has a Honda CL77 Scrambler.

There’s some serious Italian metal in this garage!

12/27/12: Craig sent me this picture of part of his fleet -a very nice duo I think.  Anyone else want to share a picture?

Color coordinated, technically interesting and neat!  I’ve been looking longingly at /2’s for years.  Thanks for sharing Craig.

12/23/12: I spent some time looking at Paul’s blog Vintagent the other evening, reminiscing about the days when I was all about motorcycles.  Motorcycles are my first vehicular love, and my first love seems to be experiencing a revival, as I suddenly have slightly more than a few right now crowding my work space. I remember riding in front of my dad on his Triumph to preschool without a helmet -it was the mid-70’s, so I guess I was about 4 – must have stuck as great fun.  I inherited that motorcycle for a few years (1991 – 2011 then gave it back), did a few miles on it and, most importantly, figured out how a lot of stuff, like brakes, clutches, electrons etc worked, and had some adventures.  Alas for the near absence of pictures from the pre-cellphone days! IMG_5053 1961 Honda CB72 13393, a rare thing, along the lines of a ’56 Sprint sort of rare, with lots of ‘early, one year only’ parts, and a 1964 CL72, somewhat like a ’59-’61 Spider sort of rare.  I’ve rebuilt a few of these engines over the years.  State of the art superb mechanicals with poor-ish chrome and paint applied over bare metal.  Sound familiar?  In a weird way Honda of 1962 is a lot like Alfa of 1962, though a case can be made that Ducati is the Alfa of motorbikes.   Continue reading “Ramble 1: Parallel universes”

Market 453: Spider 09805 nice in red, yes it is!

Giulietta Spider 10103*09805.  This car is on eBay right now with a Buy it Now of $89,500.  It’s a nice one, and before I get into the gory details of incorrectness, I have to remind myself and you gentle reader, that it’s HARD to get a car to this point.  It requires either a steady check writing hand (and a very skilled payee) or an attention span worthy of a Nobel prize.

Screen Shot 2012-12-20 at 7.40.42 PM

This is either a really good shade of red, or the lighting is just right.  Fantastic shut lines, very nice trim, slightly on the blue side of silver wheels, Cibie headlamps.  A nice one.

Market 422: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 177251 now at F40 -bring the kids!

Update 12/18/12:  They always turn up again -this guy at F40 Motorsports.  Price of $139,000 is feeling more and more like a sensible high for SS’s and likely the neighborhood they will come to rest in for a while -unless of notable heritage or otherwise interesting.  This car has few issues, and if red is you color a trip to Portland CT may be just the thing -though I think the leaves will all have fallen by now.

Screen Shot 2012-12-18 at 9.32.45 AM

Nicely turned out with Borrani’s.  Is it just me or are there a lot of wheel weights on that front wheel?  Aren’t the bent ones supposed to go on the back (or get fixed??)?  Panel fit is excellent.  It’s quite red!

Market 452: Spider 171325 -pretty clean

12/24/12:  Understandably not sold for $21,100.  Better pictures and a little research allowing for a candid appraisal of it’s condition by the seller would help.

Screen Shot 2012-12-24 at 6.58.43 AM

12/17/12: Giulietta Spider 10103*171325, 1315*010625.  This car is on eBay right now out of  Quebec.  It looks okay, but it’s tough to tell much about a black car in dark pictures.  The seller seems to be a dealer of primarily American/Muscle type cars.  In the description they seem surprised the car has a twin cam engine.  Heh!

Screen Shot 2012-12-16 at 8.45.57 PM

Nice!  The chrome is all new as are the tires.  Can’t say much about the paint/body -needs some outdoor pictures.

Market 451: Spider 10103 170856 -or what’s left of it

Update 12/24/12:  Sold for $2850!

Screen Shot 2012-12-24 at 7.01.05 AM

12/16/12: Giulietta Spider 10103*170856.  This partial car is on eBay right now out of Texas.  It comes with some of it’s parts, but no images or inventory are offered -the seller only confirms it’s missing the seats, engine, transmission and one windshield pillar.  I think that is probably the abbreviated list of macro parts missing, and that there will be plenty more.  The car itself is as pictured is a very rusty shell.  Proceed with caution.

Screen Shot 2012-12-16 at 8.28.02 PM

From this angle, not too bad, just missing a little skin and a little banged up.

Market 450: Giuliettas.com exclusive Sprint 20205 (was M49)

Update 1/16/13: Car has been sold via eBay for $12,500 almost immediately upon listing.

12/13/12: Giulietta Sprint 10102 1493*20205, 1315*010311.  This car is available right now out of Florida from a long time Alfa owner/restorer.  It is more solid than the usual Sprint project and complete but needs a full restoration to be nice or at least a mechanical freshening to be driven.  If you’re looking for a matching numbers complete Sprint as a starting point for a project this may be the car for you!  Asking price is “offers in the lower mid-teens”.

This car was Market 49 where it failed to sell for about $5500 back when you could get pretty good runner for about $20,000.  Pretty good runners have moved on to start at about $35,000 and projects have gotten more expensive as a result, so I think $12 – 15K would not be a bad deal for this car.  Car was originally delivered to a dealer in Italy – finding it’s way to the US in the 60’s.

Email me and I’ll put you in contact with the seller.  sprints @ giuliettas.com

One could drive this car looking like this.  Might cause some grumbling among the purists – but who cares.  Marker lights are consistent with a European delivery car.  Trim all looks pretty good.
