Market 134: 750F Spider Veloce

Update 8/10/09: This car sold for $24,700 with 7 bidders in the hunt.  The seller noted that the engine was incorrect and bidding seems to have taken this into account.  This money seems about right for the car.  There is a Veloce block on eBay right now that would be acceptible for this car, the new owner should consider snapping it up.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 1495*04178, 1315*44341.  This Spider Veloce is on eBay from Brighton Motorsports in Arizona.  It is listed as being numbers matching but it clearly has a Spider Normale series engine number, so either it’s not really a Veloce or the engine has been replaced.  I suspect the latter since it comes with all the Veloce components installed and the Veloce engines were known to fail if not properly maintained.  Also, Veloce’s tended to be built in pairs or groups and 04177 is a Veloce.  I’ll check d’A&T tonight and update.  I emailed the seller about this and they said they would note it on their auction but they haven’t yet.  Some discussion has been made of this car on the Yahoo group for these cars and other discrepancies have been pointed out.  d’Amico and Tabucchi say 04155 – 04229 are all Veloce’s so I think there is a good chance this car is a Veloce.

149504178 nose closeNose ridge is shapely and blends to the edge of the grill nicely.  Some guys take the stamped edge off the grill so there is a smooth transition between the body and trim.  Between the grill and drivers side over rider the paint looks bubbly or textured by being sprayed over crud.  Have a look before you buy.

Market 127: Sold Spider. Assembled in Mexico!

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*02420.  This car sold on eBay recently for $18,100 after 38 bids.  About the right result for a car like this.  What do I mean ‘a car like this’?  See the sellers  description for the full details, but basically a largly unoriginal bitsa that spent most of it’s life in Mexico.  Not that any of that is in and of itself bad, especially if the result is fast and looks good, but Giuliettas are trending towards originality being reflected in asking and selling prices as interest and values go up.  Bringatrailer did a write-up which can be found here.
other other frontAlways a pleasure to see a Giulietta Spider nose that is well turned out in a color other than red, white or black.  Not a lot to fault up here!

Sprint 750B ‘Easy Restoration’?

While on my usual morning stroll through the information super highway (I only ever go a few exits myself) I came across a reference to Bart Holland in the Netherlands on the Alfa BB.  The reference mentioned ‘a lot of pictures of a Sprint 750B restoration’.  I would soon learn this is an understatement.  From their home page you can link to the restoration of this car.

The pictures below are of the car before restoration.  I am going to assume that this is a case of the car looking better in pictures than it is, and that the owner wanted a perfect Sprint, or maybe this car was restored with such careful documentation to demonstrate their skills.  Either way it is amazing.  Go to the website only if you have some time to kill.  Their skill at dealing with imperfect parts and making them better than new in a lot of cases is evident and well documented.

08857 frontThis picture is a copyright Bart holland.  I don’t think they’ll mind my using it since I’m giving them free advertising.  Looks like the ususal ‘restored’  Sprint found on eBay.  Wait until you see what this car goes through!

Market 111: Black 750D in Germany.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*06320, 1315*45263. Available now on Anamera, this Spider is one of the nicest (or at least best photographed) I’ve had the opportunity to write about. It appears to have been detailed to the smallest detail and looks amazing. 39,500 Euro’s ($52,000 at press time) is absolute top money for a standard passo corto (swb) Spider so I don’t know that this car will find a taker, but it’s nice to look at and use as reference when I get to work on my pile.

06320 spider frontIs it any wonder it’s this nice if it’s found its way to Anamera? Looks good all the way around.

Market 105: Sprint Special 00339, best project yet!

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00339, engine 00120*00611. This car is available right now from The Car Nut in Georgia. The seller says the price depends on where he is in the restoration ($45,000 as of 4/8/09, 5:42 pm) when a buyer appears which is practical. It looks to me like all that is really left to do is the clean assembly that can seem to take forever but is generally regarded as fun. The body looks to have been finished to a very high standard and silver is a good color for SS’s, as evidenced also in Market 18.

ss 339 front WIPWork in Progress. Those wheels are odd, but the seller indicates originals with new caps are included. If this car is as nice in person as the pictures, this is a great deal.

Market 97: Very nice 750F Spider Veloce

Update 3/24/09: Auction ended at $49,999 with 43 bids.  This is about what I thought it would do.  Apparently the economic rollercoaster isn’t confusing buyers of fine cars that are likely to appreciate or at least hold their value.  I wonder where this car will go?  Germany?  Belgium?  Japan?  Dubai?  Berkeley?  I hope the latter.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 1495F04358, Engine 1315*31402. This car is on eBay right now out of Santa Clara Ca. These early 750 Spider Veloce’s are the Spider to get if you can find one and as always, if you can find a nice original it’s the one to get, if not, get a no excuses restored car like this.

bowniqmkkgrhgookjgejllmyuwjbjumv2e2ow_3I don’t usually have black come to mind when I think of a Giulietta Spider, but I have seen a lot of local cars in black over the last few years and I think going forward I will always think of them in black.

Market #92: Red Sprint Three-fer in Italy

Giulietta Sprints 1493*26018, 1493*26085 and a 1965 Giulietta 1300.  These three cars are all in Italy, all about 25,000 Euro’s, all red and all in pretty nice shape.  I have them arranged in the chronological order outlined above for each group of common view pictures.  26018 and 26085 are from the 1960 interim series that ends at 26200 in Fusi.  The 1965 Giulietta 1300 represents the last gasp for the classic Giulietta Sprint and they only made 428 if Fusi’s numbers are accurate.  Giulietta Sprint production spanned 11 years and if you look at the Sprints contemporaries at the beginning and end of its run you see a great leap forward in automobile design and technology that was just catching up in the early 1960’s to the standard of robustness, reliability and style set by the Sprint.

3396f5be3a1493*26018 is not only 67 cars older than the next car, it is photographed in the same spot.  There are some event stickers on the quarter window which if nothing else indicate this car drives well enough to do a few hundred miles.

Market 87: SVZ 02028/06936

Giulietta Sprint Veloce Zagato 1493E*06936.  This car is listed on Anamera right now out of the Netherlands.  There is very little information given on this car but if you read through ‘The Complete SVZ File’ thread on the Alfa BB you will find some very interesting reading about this car.

This is a gorgeous little car.  Zagato hand crafted these cars on an individual basis from Sprint race car wrecks.  This car was restored by Zagato in the mid 1980’s.

Market #82: Another late Giulia Spider Veloce

Giulia Spider Veloce 101.18 AR390652, Engine AR00121.02393.  This car is available right now from Fantasy Junction, asking price is $31,500.  They describe it thus:

“Outstanding ‘driver’ standard restoration. 2,500 miles since completion. A true Veloce by serial number. $39,500 spent on engine (rebuilt), transmission (rebuilt), suspension and brakes. Repainted in the original color. Drives well, as would be expected of a rebuilt car. Evidence of some rust repairs to the underside, but generally a straight, solid car. Great value.”

390692 aboveLooks very good.  It’s hard to get all the panels and trim pieces to align and be symmetrical after a repaint.  Color is a little boring in my opinion, but I’m sure ‘classy’ in someone elses, at least it’s original.
