Market 219: Some Sprints in Salt Lake city

Giulietta Sprints. If you’re quick you can call and try and buy these two Sprints.  One is a Veloce, both are pretty rough.  I talked to a guy that talked to the seller and it sounds like the seller is fishing for as much money as possible… not that that’s not what I would do.  Check Craigslist.

It’s pictures like this that make me think there are a lot of survivors.  Nose has had a decent poke.  Probably better than it looks in the picture.

Giulia SS 380211 is in the house

The odyssey has ended, my new Giulia SS is in my shop space next to the Giulietta SS and the parts are for the most part unpacked.  How is it?  Well, it is as rusty as the pictures promised -with a need for inner and outer rockers in addition to repair to a lot of little lacey rust holes around the windows and anywhere else moisture was able to get.  The good is that a lot of the hard fabrication was done before the previous owner got the car so it has a new floor, lots of new metal in the lower extremities and a pile of new metal to install, the bad is it makes my Giulietta SS rust repairs look like a cake walk.  Can and will I get it together?  I hope so.

Dave brought the car and 3 crates down from Canada.  I find it sad that he earned 40% more than the broker company and all they did was fill out a few forms.  I reckon the shipping was a pretty good deal.

Market 216: Modified Spider ‘track car’

This Giulietta Spider based homebuilt roadster is available now on Craigslist out of Grand Blanc, Flint for $3900. If it’s got most of it’s parts that’s not a bad price.  If it’s not rusty it might be worth welding the correct nose and tail back on.

70’s Spider nose on a Giulietta?  Could be worse… somehow.  That rollbar/loop looks pretty thin.

Two years with Giuliettas: The State of the Union

It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since I started giuliettas.com.  It’s mostly been a lot of fun-to-do yet challenging work and I’ve had my productivity issues, my ups and downs of mood, funds and time, but through it all I have kept my momentum, mainly through the encouragement of the friends I’ve made through comments and emails… they get me through the days when I wonder what I am bothering to do this for.   I renewed my domain name, paid to have it link to the site and am due to renew my Flickr pro account next week, so rest assured, you will be able to enjoy another year of giuliettas.com.

Where it all began.

Market 207: Sprint Veloce Lightweight project in LA

Update 4/16/10: More pictures have surfaced (link is to a large Flickr set).  This car needs a lot to bring it back and the fact that it hasn’t been snapped up by anyone who has gone and seen it in person tells me it’s very needy.  Make a reasonable offer and wait?

The fire damage to the aluminum skin of the passenger door.  Ouch.  Rocker needs a little too…

Lots to do to correct the steel door frame and then refit the skin.

A view that doesn’t look too bad.

Giulietta Sprint Veloce. In the for sale section at the website for the UK based Giulietta Register is a rare thing indeed -a project Sprint Veloce Lightweight!  Car was apparently in some sort of fire and will require some more difficult than usual fabrication.  If you’ve been looking for one as a project this may be it.

Yes it looks scary, but I bet all the easy ones have been fixed already.  Doors, hood, trunk, window frames, headlight rings, and lots of other little bits are aluminum.   Continue reading “Market 207: Sprint Veloce Lightweight project in LA”

Market 186: rusty Spider project 10103 170124

Update 4/8/10: Failing the eBay route this car has been listed on Craigslist for $3000.  There has been some discussion on the 750-101 group all to the effect that it’s too much money.  The seller got very little for the drivetrain parts they sold before selling the car, so it’s starting to look like they should have kept it all together.  Some rube will probably buy it and then start the cycle anew on eBay , but at $5000.  Sigh.

Update 3/29/10: This car is back on eBay with lots more and better pictures, bidding has reached $2995 with one bid and it looks as though there is no reserve.  Maybe this fellow has found a new home.

Update 2/16/10: No bids, no buyer.  Patience friend Spider -you’ll have your day.

Giulietta Spider 10103 170124. This car is on eBay right now out of Oregon.  Seller has been auctioning off a lot of the little parts over the last couple of weeks and now the rest of the car has to go.  I just noticed this car was listed 7 minutes after the Sprint in market 185.  Odd how the world works.  Opening bid is $3995.  No takers as yet.

Looks like the typical scrappy parts car layed up 20 years ago and now maybe worth enough to be promoted from parts car to project.  We’ll see.  Lots of good parts to be seen, but all need some love to be viable.

Market 202: Rough early Sprint in France

Giulietta Sprint 750B.  Listed as a 1956 in LVA, the leading classic newspaper in France, is this rusty Sprint.  Price of entry is 5000 Euro’s or about $6800.  Without more pictures I would have to say this is pretty ambitious as a project since a Sprint this early in good, though unrestored shape can be had in the mid $20k’s.

It looks to be complete other than the missing metal from the bodywork.  Rims may be the early rolled edge style -can’t really tell in pictures of this resolution.  Advertisement indicates it was an original French delivery car and thus probably has the glass brake fluid reservoir and yellow headlights.  Door gaps are superb here for what it’s worth.

SS Veglia gauge restore part 2 -finale-

I am back from vacation but need a few days to see what’s going on and get back into the swing of things so another rerun for you all.

Originally posted 7/28/09: Following on my success with the Super gauges intended for my TI and the two Sprint Speciale gauges, I decided tackling the last gauge for the SS was the thing to do yesterday when I spent some hours at the shop.

Outwardly the Tachometer was the middle child, not so cosmetically usable as is as the tri-gauge and not so obviously water damaged as the Speedometer. Functionally it was not much better off than the Speedometer. This is how it went:

tach front beforeI would probably have paid $40 for this on eBay and been disappointed when I received it if I didn’t know then what I know now. Needles are pointed where they belong but other than that it looks bad. At least the plastic insert is not yellowed.

Market 199: Hard work done 750D Spider project

Update 3/16/10: 2 bids, $5101, no sale.  Would have been a bargain at this price.  I’ll have to ask if it’s still available.

Giulietta Spider 750d 1495*06473. This Black Plate car is on eBay right now out of Southern California. Seller is not the owner but I know him through the Alfa world and he’s an upstanding guy and not a car dealer so everything in the description should be taken at face value. Starting bid of $5000 is very reasonable considering the effort required to get a car into this condition and ready for final prep and paint. Sure, lots of little stuff needs doing -just about everything in fact, but none of it looks that bad.

This looks very good. Nose features are well defined and this is without filler. Door fit looks good, hard to say about the hood.

Market 189: Early Sprint project 750B 01996 in Italy

Giulietta Sprint 750B 01996 is available right now on Italian eBay out of Padua Italy.  While incomplete, it looks like a good, albeit expensive start for someone looking for an early car.  I’ll be in the market for one when the SS is done -but that may be a while.

Not exactly straight and ready for paint, the drivers side lower grill area looks to be pushed in a little.  Dig the string holding the glass in place.  Must have been shipped recently.
