Market #44: Palm Springs 101 Sprint project

Update 8/6/10: This car is now on eBay with a pretty reasonable opening price.  Bidding is $6000 with 3 bidders, reserve not met as I write this.

Update 7/31/10: Giulietta Sprint 10105 1493*22433. I knew if I paid attention long enough the VIN of this car would come out.  After a year of some work and hanging around this car has now been listed on eBay by a seller who seems to always have a lot of Alfa stuff listed.  How did I determine it’s the same car?  The chromed fuel filler cover among other things.  Asking is now $29,000.

Looks pretty good.  Lots of new pictures if you follow the VIN link.  Engine is revealed to be a 2 liter, rear end is 5.12 and all the other usual abnormale stuff.  Seats are not original.

Update 11/3/09: This car is back on Craigslist. Still in Palm Springs, still asking $18,000 and still potentially a good deal if the condition is as good as it looks.

ps sprint noseNose looks very good with lustrous paint and good chrome.

Market 102: Interim Spider Veloce Project

Update 7/26/10: This car is on eBay right now.  I’m not sure if it’s the same seller as before -the listing says Florida and the car ships out of PA which is where it was when it was being sold on the BB.  Either way -it looks like a pretty good place to start your Spider Veloce project.

Originally posted 4/6/2009: Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107*167587, Engine 00106*01197. This car is available right now on the AlfaBB our of Pennsylvania. No asking price is stated but it sounds like in the neighborhood of $20,000 is what the seller would like.

dsc00455The ever popular ‘before’ picture.  Looks pretty good from an accident damage and rust standpoint.  This has the neat small tail lights with separate reflectors below them.

Market 235: Perfect project, 750D Spider

Update 7/26/10: 34 bids, $12,100 result.  About right for this car.  Hopefully on its way to a loving new home!

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03571, 1315*41225 (originally 43319). This  black plate, early 1958 car is on eBay right now out of southern California.  Original color looks to have been Celeste (light blue), a favorite of many on these early cars.  Condition is as good as one could ask for in a starting point project car to fully restore.

This car reminds me a lot of the subject of Market 120. While this is a fantastic starting point restoration candidate -one should be tempted to leave it alone and just make it work for now. Nose bump is very pronounced on this car.  Hood fits pretty good. Follow up pictures show some poor repairs in the lower areas of the nose but nothing horrible.

Market 234: Spider 750D in San Diego

Update 7/19/10: This car has sold for $5350 with 22 bids.  Sounds cheap but when you start adding up the hours and parts to make it decent you toe the break even line the whole way.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*05223. This car is available now on eBay out of San Diego.  Someone took a crusty project and threw a coat of resale red on it -someone with the right skill set could probably pay themselves a modest hourly wage to finish this up on the cheap for the second round of resale.

Ah the pretty pretty red, too bad there is close to zero possibility of giving this car all it needs and not having to do a bunch of touch up or repaint.  This is what the suspension does when it’s original and the engine is out.  Windshield is partially present.

Market 231: new second rustiest Spider 750D

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*06844, 1315*45467. Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria New York is offering this hedge/bog find Giulietta Spider right now for $4950.  The rust situation with this car is palpable and even the most optimistically rigorous DIYer should be taken aback.  The good: very complete, super low miles (assuming the speedometer was functional for every mile the car traveled), one owner (who is culpable in the death of this car)… the bad: pretty much everything.

I wonder if pulling a car like this from its resting place would be considered grave robbery… sand blasting may result in this cars disappearance.

Market 214: 1600 Spider rolling restoration

Update 7/26/10: This car has had a string of unsuccessful runs on eBay the last few weeks -the latest seeing bidding hit $10,850 with reserve not met.  I’d have a hard time swallowing a $3100 loss too…

Update 7/1/10: This Spider finds itself back on eBay after a few weeks vacation in Santa Barbara.  Assuming the full price of $12,850 was paid and it was shipped out to California -I will guess the new reserve is about $14,000 -a tough sell but may be doable.

Looking about the same as before.

Update 5/10/10: I should get paid to do this.  As I predicted it sold for slightly more than the AlfaBB asking after a run through eBay.  $12,850 with  30 bids.  Well Sold and if the engine is put together competently well bought.

Update 5/3/10: This car is now on eBay which means there is a finite amount of time before it is sold.  That’s the beauty of eBay -unless you screw it up by starting too high or having an unrealistic reserve, your car is going to sell.

A little leg never hurt a picture of a car.

Giulia 1600 Spider 10123*372577, 00112*00584. This car is available for $12,500 out of Arlington VA of on the Alfa BB.  Seller is a well known AROC guy who has several other Alfas and seems to know his stuff where these cars are concerned.  Car is a runner/driver and, while quality paint before reassembly seems like a good idea, one could probably just throw it together and start using it if  cosmetics were not an issue.

Nose has been replaced but doesn’t look too bad here.  Would be a decent ‘driver’ quality car if all this trim was bolted on.

Market 227: Needy Spider Roller 09363

Update 6/24/10: Is $8601.50 a good deal for this car?  Not sure, but that’s what it sold for.  I’d like to see a little less rust for that money, but it is nearly complete.

Giulietta Spider 10103/4 09363, 00102*25390. This Spider is on eBay right now out of Illinois from a seller who seems to always have a few Giulietta bits on offer.  Condition is the usual straight clean car with some race history that was allowed to get rusty during a period of neglect.  Bidding is just shy of $5K as I write.

Nose is in good shape, hood fits well and the original paint was probably salvagable before rust was allowed to snack on this car.  I wonder what the ‘CP’ racing group is?

Market 223: 101 Spider Normale project

Update 6/15/10: $12,634.01, reserve not met was the outcome.  Has not been relisted so maybe the high bidder and seller are working something out.

Giulietta Spider 10104 1495*08359, 1315*011500. This neglected but otherwise solid Spider project is on eBay right now out of Illinois.  Car is said to be a long time Arizona car which bodes well for those worried about rust -Arizona is very dry.  If you’re looking for a DIY project this might just be the car for you.

How you want to find them: straight bodies, paint you could live with almost indefinitely, about complete and untouched for years (whitewalls provide evidence of this).

Market 221: 750D roller

Update 6/5/10: $1276.51.  Not a bad buy considering it’s on suspension.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03746. This partial car is on eBay right now out of Colebrook NH.  Seller says ‘pick up only’ which narrows the field considerably.  I bet this thing ends up on a truck.  Car is $152.50 at time of writing.

Looks like the usual yard art turns eBay auction turns project.  Presence of tires holding air and not being at odd angles to each other is good.  Originally gray?  Nose is only a little beat.

Market 220: 750 ‘Spyder’ Veloce

Update 5/24/10: Check out this picture of the 750F list in d’A & T.  I would think it’s a Veloce.  This car doesn’t make any sense to be $40K as a normale… more like $28k.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*05388, 1315*013679. This car is listed right now at Fantasy Junction for $39,500 and described as being a Veloce conversion but this chassis number is listed in d’Amico and Tabucchi as a 1958 Spider Veloce and I will assume they are correct.

So far so good.  Grill eyebrows are missing but that’s not a big deal to sort out if you want.  Drivers side grill tusk looks a little crooked.  Hood fits good and everything says ‘driver’.
