Market 442: Survivor Spider 750D 06495

Update 12/12/12:  2x no sales with strong bidding.  I’d probably have sold it at $30,000, but then again, I’m not trying to make a calculated margin like most dealers are.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*06495.  This car is on eBay right now from a seller in Santa Barbara who has been listing Alfa’s occasionally (buying low and immediately trying to sell high in the spirit of free market capitalism) over the last few years.  The car is solid -and besides that unremarkable and tired.  I suspect this is the car that was on Craigslist out of the Napa/Sonoma area wine country last month.  Amazing what some elbow grease and the right lighting for pictures will do for you.

We’ve seen this pier a few times.  There are no holes for ‘eyebrow’ trims -must’ve been filled the last time it was painted.  Hood needs a little fitting on the drivers side corner.

Market 437: Sprint Veloce Alleggerita 750 E 03819

Giulietta Sprint Veloce ‘Alleggerita’ 750 E 1493*03819, 1315*30348. This 1957 Sprint Veloce is available now out of Italy. It is a good comparison with yesterdays lightweight Veloce, especially in the interior -would be a great comparison if I knew how much they were asking.  They made about 600 lightweights if my vin/body number math is sound.  Not horrifically rare as far as rare Italian cars goes, but these being very potent machines in their hey-day, frequently vanquishing their own class and placing very high outright in races against competitors with 2 or 3 times the displacement, and being constructed from lots of impossible to find special parts, they have all the cache one could want in a 50 year old Italian car.  Oh -and they are beautiful and easy to drive -even among modern traffic.

Hood fits very well.  I like the extra lights -looks like 1 fog and 1 spot.  Marchal’s?  Bumper, eyebrow trims and headlights all look like aluminum to me.  Nice car.

Market 291: Driver Giulia SS in Texas

Update 7/16/12: This car has appeared for sale on eBay in Europe out of Southern California from a Zero feedback seller. Scam? Hmmm.

Update 3/17/11: 75 bids resulted in $62,750.  It’s no joke, game on for SS values!

Update 3/14/11: Bidding has reached  $40,000 and reserve is met with 2 days to go.  The suspense begins!

Giulia SS 10121*381379. This car is on eBay right now out of Texas.  Bidding is at just shy of $30,000 with 4 days left as I write.  This car is truly in ‘how you used to find them’ condition and frankly may be as much as $80,000 away from being a top money car, but for a capable DIY restorer that restoration number could get down to $40,000.  Why do I mention this?  See yesterdays post, which the seller references in their write up, a Giulietta SS sold for $140,000 at the Amelia Island auction.  This is a great place to start, but it still has to be reduced to nuts, bolts and bare metal and built back out to get in the league that car is in.  Then it has to find a buyer… Or it could be let alone, touched up, enjoyed and entered in the preservation class some day.

Looks great from this distance, through the lens of a camera after being hosed down.  Note dent above headlight.  Antennae has to go to.

Market 22: Mexico City Giulietta Sprint survivor

Update 7/1/12: 1 bid, reserve not met.  No sale.

Update 6/25/12: This car has turned up on eBay after 4 years with the same pictures and from the same seller. Sprint values have come a long way in the last 4 years. I expect it will find a buyer this time.

Original post 6/20/08: Reserve not met! $12,099 was the ending price, $1 less than the black plate car out of Cottonwood. Seller added some new pictures of the car outdoors in daylight that show it is a pretty nice car. I think either of these cars was a pretty good deal and would be a great basis for putting together very nice original driver. I think both suffered from somewhat poor presentation and the fact that they both went through eBay at the same time. There can’t be that many guys (or gals) out there looking for Sprints, so any more than 2 or 3 a month in a given area is market saturation, and we’ve been seeing 5 or 6 a month since I started this blog. Last, I suspect both these sellers, encouraged by the strong sale prices mentioned earlier for project cars, put these on the market just to kind of see what they would do, without a real necessity to sell them.

Added pictures include this nose shot, always a pleasant sight. I wonder if a yellow curb has the same meaning in Mexico.

Market 420: 1600 Spider Veloce red/black/red 10118*390692

Update 7/1/12: This car did pretty well, selling for very close to the initial BiN price.  Anyone here the new owner??

Alfa Giulia 1600 Spider Veloce 10118*390692, 00121*02141. This car is on eBay right now from a seller who has brought us a few really good Veloce projects over the last few months. Car has had one owner, and an ill-advised repaint in red, but other than that looks to have been a fairly well cared for and respected member of the family.  Seller is correct that a repaint in black would do wonders for this car.  Unless there are hidden rabbit holes, the $48,500 buy it now seems only a tad high.

Car looks great.  Those mirrors in that location are sort of like a bull-ring in the nose of an otherwise pretty girl, or an invitation for Godzilla to step on it.  Door shut lines are very good.  Note to self -take pictures of a red car on lush green grass.

Market 341: Nice Giulia Sprint in San Diego

Update 4/27/12: Seller sent me an email informing me that this car has sold for full asking price.

Update 4/12/12: This car is available again for the new asking price of $49,700, quite a bit more than it was when it first entered the market.  Detailing is thorough and some small problem areas have been fixed.  There have been some stellar examples of these late 1600 Sprints on the site over the years (see here for one) that have failed to sell for much, but maybe it’s a case of ‘that was then’ -after all the highest priced SS from the same time was a little over $60K.  Bravo for a an extremely well put together presentation.

Update 12/17/11:  Seller has been swamped with interest so the price is being rethought.

Giulia 1600 Sprint 10112 356435.  Kip informed me this car is available now from Motoring Investments in San Diego.  Color combo is great and the car appears to be in fantastic condition.  If it’s as good as it looks, it’s a bargain at $XXXXX and wont last.  You don’t see these 1600 Sprints very often.

I love these in Celeste blue.  Body looks fantastic.  Trim looks as good as the body and everything else looks as good as the trim.  If I had money to spend on a car I’d be on the phone right now (paying off my VW Jetta Wagon ;^)).

Market 406: Sprint 10105 20729 -how you used to find them

Update 4/6/12: I subscribe to the idea that the price is the price -especially in the pure market forces exercise that an auction is, but I can’t help thinking that this car is under-appreciated and worth more than the sum of it’s parts.  Car is listed in the current Giuliettaletta for an asking price of $20K.  A little high in my opinion, but not massively.

Update 3/27/12: Car went unsold with a high bid of $12,100 -not meeting reserve, but has been relisted.  I wouldn’t have sold it for $12,100.

3/17/12:  Giulietta Sprint 10105 1493*20729.  This car is on eBay right now out of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania from a long time Alfa club guy.  Seller says it was owned by the Dupont family and under went several color changes from the original Celeste (or whatever shade of light blue).  Car is currently powered by a 1600 engine out of a 101 Spider that has a blown head gasket, but comes with the original 1300.  The usual caveats apply -it’s complete, together, and not far from the road, but needs a lot of help to be a nice car.  That said, it is one of the better Sprint projects I’ve written about.

Looking very much like my car -patina and all.  Biggest plus for this car is its potential to be a rolling restoration.  Check the brakes out, do the head gasket or whatever, tie up the loosest ends in the interior, suspension etc and drive it.  While you use it you can source parts, come up with a plan, and begin the restoration.

Market 274: Nice Interim Sprint

Update 4/6/12: If this car is worth $25,900 then the Giulietta market has fallen off a cliff.  Admittedly the interior has some issues and the car probably photographs better than it actually is, but as far as Sprints likely to come on the market goes, this will always be in the 90th percentile.  I just don’t think the privacy of an eBay auction ending at home when you are alone in your PJ’s sipping your favorite Rye waiting for your Sprint object of bidding to close has quite the same thrill as sitting in the RM audience with the lights, noise, booze and tits all swirling around you, taking larger and larger chunks out of your bank account as you try and out do the Donald Trump hair-do next to you.

Update 3/3/12:  This car is now on eBay after a short ownership by someone in North Carolina.  It looks as good as ever.  The saga continues.

Update 3/15/11: This car sold through Fantasy Junction recently.  Went for much more than the highest eBay bid.  Is eBay on its way out?

Update 1/11/11: Back on eBay and looking for a new owner.  This looks like a good one.  Go for it!

Update 12/27/10: $20,101 after 28 bids with reserve not met.  Disappointing really -I guess mine is worth a few thousand less than I thought -not that I want to sell it but, well , this car should have seen at least $28,000.

Giulietta Sprint 10105*20386, 1315*010370. This pretty good specimen of an interim Sprint is on eBay right now out of Southern California.  Of note to me is that it is 7 cars later in production than my Sprint (20379) with the next engine number after mine (1315*010369) and also a USA market car by its 10105 prefix.

Looking good.  I need a set of the front lenses in white -mine are amber Euro spec.

Giulietta TI 109107 RIP

Gavin sent me these pictures along with a brief note that he had picked this car up and now had a shed full of spares from it.  The story is one I’m familiar with, and maybe you are too.  Guy who owned it rolled it outside a number of years ago to make room for some of its rarer cousins.  He is asked to sell repeatedly back when it was a viable used car, but refuses.  Ages go by, the elements reclaim much of the iron from it and ultimately what you see here is all that remains.  The old man dies, and the car goes on the market for parts -a needlessly dead thing.

Must be a bit of moisture in the area!  Note how the body just broke between the doors.  Must have been a chore digging this out of the vines.

Market 357: Sprint Veloce Confortevole 06469

Update 1/15/12: This car has been loosely assembled, had new pictures taken and relisted on eBay.  Seller says to call them (Daniel, 203 778 2601), that they expect to have a strong offer for it and sell it before auctions end.  I hope it finished at auction so we get a sense of what a car like this is really worth.

Looks like a car now.  I know it needs as much work as one all apart to restore this, but I would make it run and drive with the minimum effort first, enjoy it on the road for a few years then do a gradual nut and bolt.  Too bad I don’t have a billionaire benefactor in my readership.  A wonderful book about the restoration of it could be produced.

I am assuming this is all just finger tightly assembled, but at least you can see it’s all there. -except the hood latch.  Would the hood have been stamped with the body number?

Laurence’s SVC has this color scheme interior, in original condition.  This would look amazing if just carefully put together with what you see.  Horn ring is busted.
