Market 315: Vent window Giulietta SS 10120 177061

Update 7/22/12: Available now from Motor Classic and Competition Corp. Interesting that this car has failed to find a home with so much demand for SS’s right now.

Update 4/2/12: Guess who’s available again? This SS. It’s now on the East Coast now, listed on Hemmings, and with a new fun asking price of $129,500.  Does this herald the arrival of market malaise?  Are we approaching a correction?  How many SS’s at greater than $100K can the market support?  Survivor-ship is high for a limited production car -probably approaching 15% documented on this site alone.  Costs more than this?

Update 9/13/11: Again.  I wonder how much they’ve spent on eBay auctions??  My advise to the seller – a change of venue after a few months pass.  Maybe Amelia Island.  Ebay is alright for 3 year old ipods and disassembled Sprints but a seriously nice SS?  Time to move up into the major leagues.  But what do I know.

Update 9/1/11: “We have made deals on this car twice on eBay now, only to have the buyer renege on his contract due to financial issues without seeing the car in person. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FINANCIAL ABILITY TO PURCHASE THE CAR before bidding, and especially before having us mail you sales documents and pull all of our advertising. If you are financing or running the car through a leasing company, make sure you are pre-approved. Each time this happens we lose other interested parties who ARE able to purchase the car. Thank you for your consideration.”  That explains it.  Rich guys drunk eBaying.

Update 8/26/11:  As predicted, this car is on eBay again -this time with new improved pictures and lengthy description attached below.  This is a great car, it’s just not going to go for Gooding money on eBay.

I know that bridge -about 15 minutes before you get to Big Sur when headed south on 1.

Market 333: SS Project 00486 in Ohio

Update 6/21/12: Didn’t take long for the 50+% dealer tax to be added to this car.  More pictures show it to be complete and needy.  Here it is in Denver.

I definitely don’t like the look of knock-offs. Pretty straight car.

Original post 11/5/11: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00486, 00120*00949.  Frank pointed me in the direction of this car listed on Hemmings.  Condition is pretty good and it should make for a straight-forward restoration to ‘clean driver’ without going too far under water at the $40,000 asking price.  For a full on restoration it will require just as much work as a car like the disassembled project I listed recently.  Wheels are very rare (on a Giulietta) Borrani wires complete with a spare.  I’m personally not a big fan of the wire wheel look, but many are.

Am I blue?  Yes, but not the right shade.  Looks pretty good as far as derelict SS’s goes.

Market 314: Giulietta SS Lownose 10120 00061 in aluminum

Update 5/15/12:  On the hammer this car sold for $195,804!  The low end of the estimate, but, it’s easy to spend other peoples money… I’d have sweated every dime. Not a bad purchase price for a nearly unique car.  Someday I’ll be in the running for cars like this -off to get a lotto ticket!

Update 4/21/12: Big money car needs a big money venue -so without further fooling around, this car is now being run through an RM auction in Monaco this May. Expected sale price $185,000 – $235,000. Not bad for what may well be one of the ‘best of breed’ SS’s. I sure want it!  Stuart- thank you for alerting me to this auction.

Could be you!  I like the gold tinted wheels.  Stellar.

Market 407: Castle find SS project in France 10120 00440

Update 4/6/12:  Car reached an underwhelming $15,099.  I’ve heard of 00120 engines selling for about $10K, so this is pretty cheap for this car, regardless of how busted up you think it is.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00440 This car is on eBay out of France right now. Seller commented a few days ago about the availability of this car, wanting to post here, but I was away from the internet for a few days and now here it is on eBay. The car is said to have been vandalized and stripped of parts, but it looks solid enough to be viable for someone, and since these have gone up in value, more parts -especially trim bits, are available new.  Car received ‘final assembly’ in France by Renault -part of their trade agreement for car imports.

Nice color combo!  Looks like that late 60’s GTV color, and the blacked out bumpers are an interesting touch.  Kind of looks like the car was driven into a corner, creating angled dents at each headlight.

Market 381: SS 177325 Retired Scuderia Del Portello race car

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*177325.  This car wears Milano plates and is available from Luzzago right now.  There are many pictures of it racing from 1987 – 1996, after which it was retired, set up for street use and apparently given somewhat of a restoration.  There is no asking price stated for this car.  Check out the link in the vin above -lots of pictures of this car racing1

There are a lot of pictures like this -blurry race shots that evoke days gone by and racing fun.  Fergats have a reputation for breaking under heavy use.  I wonder if this guy suffered any breaks?

Market 330: Giuliettas.com exclusive Giulietta SS project

Update 2/5/12:  This car has sold to an enthusiast in the states.  Stay tuned for more interesting Giulietta’s for sale.

Update 1/15/12: This car remains unsold.  The seller is ready to put it on eBay, where I think it will do better than his asking price.  This is your last chance to buy before it goes on eBay.

Update 10/27/11: I heard from the seller that he has had some strong offers.  If you are interested in the car and are moving at a pre-internet pace deciding if it’s the project for you, you might want to light a fire under yourself.  I doubt a matching number early Giulietta SS with all it’s pieces is going to come on the market in project form at this price for a long while.

10/18/11: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00381.  Another Giuliettas.com exclusive.  This SS is available now out of the North East for offers around $27,000.  Seller says it’s complete with original 00120 engine, seats, glass etc.  Not a bad deal for the DIY restorer.  Get it now or pay the dealer tax!  Contact me for the sellers email at sprints @ giuliettas.com.

I wish I started here with my first SS project!  Nose has a little bend, drivers fender top has a dent.  Not too bad really.

Market 377: SS 00158 in Portugal

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00158, 00120*00518.  Henrick sent me a note alerting me to this cars presence on Anamera.  It looks to be a pretty well maintained car, with an especially nice, mostly original looking interior.  Asking price is a reasonable €38,000 -well, reasonable if the underside of the car looks as good as the rest!  Always interesting to see a car surface that’s not on my register -I’m at 110 Giulietta Sprint Speciales on my register -that’s approaching 10% of production surviving.

I like cars in a blue so dark it looks black.  Paint looks good, trim and all is right for a nice driver.

Market 374: Giulietta SS racer in Italy

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120, 00120.  This unknown SS is for sale out of Italy for €35,000.  It has the road-racer treatment that seems to get applied to cars that need restoration work to gloss over their short-comings -though this example looks to have been used on the track some.  These are valuable enough that cars like this one will enter an original-ification program before long.

Looks decent.  Paint on the hood barely matches that on the rest of the car.  Picture it without the decals or ‘cage and it could be a decent event car.  Sorry -I’m not a fan of a bunch of stickers all over a car like this.

Market 372: SS 00216 in Italy

Update later the same day:  This car was also Market 208, before I had the vin #.  Asking price has increased a bit since April of 2010.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00216, 00120*0????.  Maurizo sent me an email to notify me that this car is on Autoscout.  Car looks to be a nice mix of preserved and restored, with a highly detailed engine compartment.  Asking price is 65,000 Euro’s or about $83,800.

With this background, it almost looks like it’s in prison.  All the usual praise applies here, the trim, fit etc all look right.  Rear end suspension is lower than usual.

Sprint Speciale 2011 market review

2011 was a good year for SS’s, I tracked 24 sales, with the average price seeming to have climbed a bit since last year, and even scary projects starting above $15,000.  Lownose 00061 at over $200K is a highlight, but I think Market 294 might have been the highlight of the year, despite the 105/115 Spider nose grafted on.

Market 332 was this Giulia SS in Italy.  I think the asking price was 20,000 euro’s.  Probabaly worth about $15,000 as a parts car.

Market 297 was SS 00358, available in Europe for $18,800.
