Market 421: Restored Speciale 177413 at Fantasy Junction

Update 2/2/13:  The beat goes on.  This guy, failing to generate much interest in the 2012 auction season is back at Fantasy Junction with new pricing: $169,500.

Good to see a picture from Fantasy Junction that’s not in front of the brick wall.

Update 8/23/12: No bids were placed at the minimum $135,000 buy in on this car so it went unsold. I wonder if it was the color combo, or lack of originality in the interior -or that the windows wouldn’t easily go up and down (they didn’t when I checked it out at FJ) or if a lot of people knew it was purchased from FJ to be sold at this auction and make a quick buck. Do any of these things matter when a potential bidder has 5 Gin and Tonic’s helping their hand up? I dunno.

Update 7/1/12: In case you missed out on buying it from FJ, you now have a chance to get it from Russo and Steele who will auction it during the old car festivities in Monterey this year.

Yes George, the drivers side rear wheel is a Fergat (and so is the spare) and the rest are Borrani’s.  I guess a high selling price doesn’t cure this sort of ailment.

Update 5/28/12: Car was initially listed for $142,500 and sold immediately for $135,000.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*177413, 00120*01738. This icy fellow is currently providing the white balance alongside all the usual reds in the Fantasy Junction showroom. This car looks great from all angles and is a pretty good performer. I had a chance to go for a ride in it after some tuning work was done by a local friend. Send me an email if you want some impressions. It’s not listed with a price and it’s got a ‘sale pending’ notice. I’m guessing $125K or so based on recent SS sales from them.

Very cool in white with all the chrome and glass.  I like white on old cars.  Paint on this is very nice.  Headlights are $8 Wagner’s.

Market 455: Speciale 10120 00657 at Gooding – Pinnacle of Giulietta elegance!

Update 2/2/13:  Sold for $90K plus fees.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00657, 00120*00911.  This fine example of an SS is due to be auctioned in a few days in Scottsdale.  Not sure why the high estimate for this one ($160,000) is so much lower than the Giulia they are auctioning ($225,000), but hey, so it goes.

Looks really good, but then some guy probably got a decent pay check for taking this and a few other great shots for the catalog.  Accessory steering wheel?  Great shut lines.

2012 Sprint Speciale market review

The Sprint special market seems to have found its groove.  Hopeless looking cheap ones start at a little over $20,000, with doable, but tough ones coming on at about $45,000.  There is a strata in Europe where decent, well maintained cars seem to be readily available for $60,000 – $80,000, then at the top of the ‘regular’ SS’s are the nice US market cars between $125,000 and $150,000.  Of course Low-nose cars occupy the top of the top.Screen Shot 2012-12-24 at 7.19.03 AM

Market 242 saw the resurfacing of SS 380956 -proving they are all viable these days.

Market 407 was SS 00440, reserve not met at $15,099.

ss front

Market 330 was SS 00381, selling for about $27,000.

Market 422: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 177251 now at F40 -bring the kids!

Update 12/18/12:  They always turn up again -this guy at F40 Motorsports.  Price of $139,000 is feeling more and more like a sensible high for SS’s and likely the neighborhood they will come to rest in for a while -unless of notable heritage or otherwise interesting.  This car has few issues, and if red is you color a trip to Portland CT may be just the thing -though I think the leaves will all have fallen by now.

Nicely turned out with Borrani’s.  Is it just me or are there a lot of wheel weights on that front wheel?  Aren’t the bent ones supposed to go on the back (or get fixed??)?  Panel fit is excellent.  It’s quite red!

Market 448: Sprin”g” Speciale 00142

Update 12/12/12:  Numbers added.  Thanks Christopher for the fancy footwork.  Matching-ish number car = more value, but how much more?

Looks correct.  Clean block.

Only the early ones seem to have these build plates – usually US cars with the 10117 prefix.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00142, 00120*00601.  At the bottom of the lower middle of the possibly viable Spring Speciale (typo theirs) spectrum sits this vin-not-disclosed SS out of Beverly Hills.  It’s actually more complete than this sort of thing is, but jeez – where’s it been??  Thanks Dan for making me aware of it.  Oh – and $44K is the operative range.

Everyone needs an SS at the bottom of their pond for the better part of the Rolling Stones career.  It is and someone will go for it -it’s just work after all (work being a four letter word for money).

Market 443: Sprint Speciale 10120 00239 -nice!

Update 12/12/12:  It sold for $137,500. Can you make this out of a $50,000 project for another $85,000?  That’s the gamble I think a lot of guys are taking.

Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 9.29.12 AM

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00239, 00120*00634.  This car is available on eBay from Drivers Source in Houston Tx.  They’ve had some Giulietta’s in questionable condition over the time I’ve had this blog, but this one looks pretty good.  It has an award in Portofino, so I suppose it’s a recent import.  Check it out!

“Ruby” red meets foliage.  Stance is a litte high. Shine is present and it is what it is.  Bumper looks weird -kind of droopy on the ends.    $137,500?  You tell me.

Market 441: Sprint Speciale 00460 at auction

Update 9/23/12: Sold for $40,750.  Wheels sold separately for $2000.  Other lots of Alfa stuff made good money too.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00460.  This car is being auctioned next week by RM’s Auctions America.  This car appeared on the Alfa BB a few years back and a bit of information can be found there, including that it is rumored to have been the NY Auto Show car.  I haven’t seen any trim for it or anything but I suppose what’s mentioned on the BB is included.  It’s noteworthy that it has very very rare period alloy wheels.  Was probably a $20K car when it was offered on the BB… who knows now.

Nice straight shell.  Door fit is wonky, but its guides are undoubtedly in a box somewhere.  Sweet wheels, have them inspected for cracks.  I don’t think I’ve seen a set of these for sale since I’ve been keeping this blog.  I’m sure someone will be tempted to buy this, take the wheels and a few choice bits for their project then send it on down the road…

Market 383: 10120 Sprint Speciale at Hyman

Update 8/21/12:  Sold for $138,000.  Well, er, bought and sold.  The journey continues.

Update 2/13/12:  It is the same car -the vin has been verified.  Sold for about €38,000 in 2006.  Market has changed!

Update 2/12/12: I heard from a previous owner of this car -the vin is 10120*177259.  He sold it into Spain 6 years ago.  He’s not positive it’s the same car, but pictures indicate it most likely is.

Silver grill -yes.  Same tires?  I think so.

Definitely looks like the same engine to me.  There you have it -a piece of the past puzzle of this car.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120.  This car is listed by Hyman Ltd, in St. Louis.  No asking price, vin or other info is provided, but judging from the pictures it’s a nice car and knowing Hyman’s MO, it will undoubtedly be expensive.  I looked through my files but was unable to find this car.  Anyone know it?

Like Fantasy Junction and their brick wall, Hyman uses this stage to good effect.  I wonder if it’s set up all the time?  I’m helping a friend listing a ton of Jaguar parts from the 50’s and 60’s on eBay and we plan on setting up a permanent photo area.  Note the screen behind the grill is in silver (or possibly chrome) -not original (if you care).  Windshield wipers are parked on the opposite side form usual.  Nice looking car!

Market 432: SS 10120 00392 ‘no longer for sale’

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00392.  This car is currently listed on eBay out of Haverhill, MA and sits at $45,000.  A note has been added at the end of the auction that it’s no longer available.  Must have received an offer too good to pass up, while being spooked by the presence of a nicer Giulia SS on eBay at the same time.

The car itself is rough around the edges, but needs mostly light cosmetics and some missing original parts sourced to be taken to the next level.  What level is that you ask?  Nice driver maybe…

There is a gray spot on the roof with a corresponding exit wound in the headliner.  They do look sweet without bumpers.  Looks very nice!
