Market 403: Spider Veloce 750F 02029

Update 3/28/12: This car did pretty well at $48223, and with some detailing may have gone higher.

3/13/12: Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*02029, 1315*30721.
Instead of the usual busted up Spider I frequently get to write about, this nice early Spider Veloce, built in mid-1957 is on eBay right now.  It’s a nice car -not necessarily correct to a fault, or finished to such a high standard you are afraid to drive it, but much better than average and mechanically sound.  Car was originally black with red interior, but it’s currently Celeste with black -not very often that an Alfa is not original color and yet not redone in red. I hesitate to guess a value -just keep in mind one of the high priced cars of 2011 was a Celeste 1958 Spider Veloce in driver + condition.

This picture could be a lot better, but shows you what to expect to show up in a big cardboard box in a few weeks if you buy it.  Good shut lines, good trim -ready to playboy it around Hollywood.

Market 399: Spider Veloce 750F 04164 project in Germany

Update 4/6/12: Not sure being in Germany helped this car much, but someone bought it and an expensive process is probably being planned right now.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*04164.  This car is on eBay out of Germany right now.  It is rusty, incomplete, modified -basically right on the verge of viability -but it is a Veloce and does come with a lot of parts.

I think what happens is someone very enthusiastically tears a car apart -starts doing work, bills get bigger than expected, parts get misplaced and the next thing the car knows it’s covered in surface rust on eBay with a trunk full of parts.  Note wheel arch in the rear has been modified -might be a bondo ramp -might be a beautiful sheet-metal sculpture.

Market 309: Stunning Celeste Spider Veloce 750F 03861

Update 1/6/12: I feel like I’m watching a rocket take off at Cape Canaveral.  This car has been listed by Colin’s Classic Cars in Milwaukee for $125,000.  It looks like some work has been done to tighten it up but it didn’t seem to need anything the last time it sold. It remains stunning and it remains one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of writing about.

Can this car have appreciated $54,900 in 7 months?  I hope we find out, and hold on to your hat if it has.

Market 361: Black Spider Veloce 750F 05144

Update 1/12/12: This car has sold.

Original post 1/5/12: Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*05144, 1315*31935.  Fantasy Junction has this car in stock right now for $79,500.  Fit and finish look pretty good, but some non-originality including color combo, intake, steering wheel and transmission, may put off some buyers.  The caretakers of this car mentioned in the ad are well known for quality work, so it should drive well.  California black plates are a nice addition as always.

I’ve looked down this sidewalk a few times.  Looks good up here.  Hood fit is slightly biased toward the left side.  You don’t see amber markers on 750’s very often.

Sprint and Sprint Veloce 2011 market review

2011 saw more SS’s on the market than Sprint/Sprint Veloce’s -at least as far as my tracking went, and I didn’t really try to find SS’s more than Sprints.  Seems odd, since there were 10X more Sprint’s made.  If you look at the list below you will see very few first series 750B’s, no lightweights and only a couple non-lightweight Veloce’s changed hands -the bulk of the sales were 101 normale’s like mine.  Of those a few made really decent money.

Market 287 was a Sprint in a sorry state out of Poland for $1000.

Market 325 was a 101 Sprint selling as a pair with a stepnose GTV, sold together for $3748 -I’ll give the Sprint the benefit of the doubt and say it sold for $2000.

Market 355: Barn find Spider Veloce 02264

Update 12/31/11: Sold for $30,100!

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*02264, 1315*30740. Brad pointed out that this car just popped up on eBay out of Connecticut. As far as Spider Veloce projects goes, this car just about has it all -1957 build date, matching numbers, correct intake system including 40DCO3’s, seats with tracks, moderate rust, and overall decent completeness.  It’s still a project, and as such maybe a road to ruin, but among projects, it’s not too bad.

Looks like a really good car -maybe wax it, vacuum the spiders out of the engine compartment, iron the carpets and away you go.  Hood fit is really good.

Market 354: 750 Spider Veloce 01925 in Portugal

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*01925.  This car is available now out of Portugal.  It sports a 101 normal 1300 engine and looks okay.  Asking price is 42,000 euro’s -a bit high for what is seen in the pictures.  Looks like maybe the same seller as the vent window Sprint in Portugal.

Looks decent here -red paint is lustrous, red and uniform.  Rear view mirror looks correct -really, no big alarm bells.  I doubt that hard top is a Pininfarina original.

Market 353: Spider Veloce project 03317 in Italy

Giulietta Spider 750F 1495*03317, 1315*30772 (missing), 1315*45283 (now).  Wow, I just spent 15 minutes looking to see if I wrote about this car before -time to organize my files!!  This car is available now from Ghibli Auto Classiche e Sportive in Italy.  Conditon is not so good, but it’s a Veloce and it’s in the land where all the spare parts seem to be headed.

Looking so-so.  Parts are present.  I want to start an ‘as found’ movement, where you get a car like this, make it work, and use it looking like this.  Would be fun and boost Tetanus shot sales.

Market 344: Spider Veloce project 750F 03409

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*03409, 1315*30905 (missing, 40168 included):  This car is available from Beverly Hills Car Club for $29,500.  Car is in okay condition, being generally solid and attractive, but having a lot of questionable repairs in evidence, and in need of a lot of mechanical work.

Paint looks to have been competently applied.  Chrome parts need chrome.  Hood fits pretty good.  Not sure what the holes in the bumpers are all about.

Market 343: Spider Veloce project 750F 05994

Update 12/20/11:  Reserve not met.  It’s a Veloce.  It’s rough.  It’s a Veloce.  It’s incomplete.  It’s a Veloce.  It’s…

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*05994, 1315*32354 (missing). This car is on eBay right now from Wholesale California in Costa Mesa.  It spent the better part of it’s existence in a field in Washington and it shows.  Lots to fix, but it is a 750 Veloce!  Original engine is missing, but a blank block is included, not sure if it’s a 750 or 101.  Car is listed on their site for $15,900.

Just looks overly scruffy in this view.  Trim is all pretty decent when you consider the elements.
