750 and 101 series cars 1954 – 1965
Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381221, 00121*01213. This car is for sale in Austria on Mobile.de. It has some odd wrong parts on it but overall is in good shape. It can be yours for 49,900 Euro’s or $60,800… quite a bit less in the dollar world that this time last year.
Good looking clean example of a fairly late model SS. Hood fits great and all the trim is present and needs nothing. Europe has some big license plates!
Update 6/15/10: $12,634.01, reserve not met was the outcome. Â Has not been relisted so maybe the high bidder and seller are working something out.
Giulietta Spider 10104 1495*08359, 1315*011500. This neglected but otherwise solid Spider project is on eBay right now out of Illinois. Car is said to be a long time Arizona car which bodes well for those worried about rust -Arizona is very dry. If you’re looking for a DIY project this might just be the car for you.
How you want to find them: straight bodies, paint you could live with almost indefinitely, about complete and untouched for years (whitewalls provide evidence of this).

Update 7/6/10: Spider did 2 tours of eBay with no takers. A purchase like this requires some serious non-coincidental provenance corroboration so I’m not surprised it didn’t sell. I think as I state at the end of the market review that this car needs to go through an auction that can authenticate it if the seller wants this kind of money.
Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*00007, 1315*40009. This Spider, one of the Pininfarina prototypes, is available now on eBay for $225,000. I have no real side by side comparison to make any comment on the value of this car but would say that the asking is in line with what I would ask if I had it.
Why? I think the Bertone Spiders (00002 and 00004) are probably million+ dollar cars these days. Pininfarina Spider 00001 (or is it 00003?), now residing at the Alfa museum and 00005 (I think), in the hands of the collector who also has the Bertone Sprint convertible and SVZ ‘Goccia’, both having the wrap around windscreen and side-curtain style windows are probably $300,000 – a million. Official numbering of the Spiders started in the mid-teens in Fusi and the cars between those mentioned above and 00016, the first production car, are likely similar to this car and close to the production models cars and hence not as valuable, maybe $100k to $500K depending on lots of stuff. I seem to recall having seen two or three other pre-production  Spiders like this but can’t remember where. Early race history usually adds value but I can’t say for sure if it does for a car like this.
As an aside, there is a chance that Ghia made a Giulietta Spider prototype. Anyone know anything about this?
I guess what I am saying is that in my opinion, the more the prototypes diverge from the standard cars, the more they are worth and this car is fairly close to the production version. Condition is the kind of ‘nice original driver’ I prefer.
Mythical beast: one of the Pininfarina prototypes. ‘Points’ on the grill tusks are the only visual cue that you are seeing anything special here, beyond your usual 750D.
Update 6/5/10: $1276.51. Â Not a bad buy considering it’s on suspension.
Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03746. This partial car is on eBay right now out of Colebrook NH. Seller says ‘pick up only’ which narrows the field considerably. I bet this thing ends up on a truck. Car is $152.50 at time of writing.
Looks like the usual yard art turns eBay auction turns project. Presence of tires holding air and not being at odd angles to each other is good. Originally gray? Nose is only a little beat.
Update 5/24/10: Check out this picture of the 750F list in d’A & T. Â I would think it’s a Veloce. Â This car doesn’t make any sense to be $40K as a normale… more like $28k.
Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*05388, 1315*013679. This car is listed right now at Fantasy Junction for $39,500 and described as being a Veloce conversion but this chassis number is listed in d’Amico and Tabucchi as a 1958 Spider Veloce and I will assume they are correct.
So far so good. Â Grill eyebrows are missing but that’s not a big deal to sort out if you want. Â Drivers side grill tusk looks a little crooked. Â Hood fits good and everything says ‘driver’.
Giulietta Sprints. If you’re quick you can call and try and buy these two Sprints. Â One is a Veloce, both are pretty rough. Â I talked to a guy that talked to the seller and it sounds like the seller is fishing for as much money as possible… not that that’s not what I would do. Â Check Craigslist.
It’s pictures like this that make me think there are a lot of survivors. Â Nose has had a decent poke. Â Probably better than it looks in the picture.

Giulia SS 10121*381349. On June 6th in Greenwich CT Bonhams will hold an auction and among the lots is Lot 437, one 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale with a claimed 33,000 miles on the odometer and a fairly clean, original appearance. Estimate is $40,000 – $60,000, which ranges from realistic to slightly optimistic but not out of the question.
This is a good looking car. Door gaps are invisible, ride height is perfect, bright work and paint are very nice. I’d lose that front license plate in a hurry.

Update 5/18/10: Car as predicted ssold in the high twenties: $28,600 after 16 bids to be exact. See, a well presented, no BS auction can result in a decent selling price.
Giulietta Spider 10103 1495*09331. This car is on eBay right now out of Washington state. The seller claims to have done extensive work in the early 2000’s and this is verified by what is seen in the pictures. After less than a day the bidding has reached $10,127 with 4 bids. There has been a pretty good group of Spiders the last month, jockeying for a ‘summer fun’ sale, but I think this might be one of the best of the group.
This is how they probably looked new. No excuses chrome, good panel fit and just a sort of ‘wow’ factor.
Update 5/18/10: You, yes you can own this car for the buy it now price of $38,000. There are no new pictures so you have to take their word for it that the restoration is in fact a restoration and not a quick blow over.
Update 5/10/10: Another run on eBay is underway and as I write this it has 4 bids for a high of $28,100 reserve not met. Doesn’t add up to me as there is one crappy picture. upon which to base placing a bid.
Okay, maybe it’s not that crappy a picture, but where are the headlight rings, the grill eyebrows and the rest of the pictures. Seller promises to have all new interior in it for the new owner.
Update 4/9/10: This car has resurfaced on eBay after the floors being replaced and the paint redone. I doubt they painted the dash or engine compartment, but hey, maybe they did. Opening bid is $25,000, reserve not met at that. What do you think?
I don’t envy the labor, just removing and replacing the windshield is an all day ordeal. I hope it ends up being worth it. I wonder if the engine compartment and dash will be red when the job is done.

This Giulietta Spider based homebuilt roadster is available now on Craigslist out of Grand Blanc, Flint for $3900. If it’s got most of it’s parts that’s not a bad price. If it’s not rusty it might be worth welding the correct nose and tail back on.
70’s Spider nose on a Giulietta? Could be worse… somehow. That rollbar/loop looks pretty thin.Â
