2010 saw a lot of Spiders change hands around the world, from the roughest of the probably-impossible projects to the top of the market concours trailer queens. I did my best to take little snapshots as they passed with pictures matched to vin numbers and sale prices, but I probably missed a bunch. Anyway, here they are, cheapest to most expensive. Where no sale price was recorded I made an educated guess. Last year I had more time so I did the Veloce’s separate -this year they are combined. Lot of cars this year!
Market 230 was abomination “Jiuliet Spider Velosh” 750F*04640 selling for $1136.

Market 278: Stalled V8 conversion (phew) 750D
Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03133. This car sold on eBay out of the SF Bay Area for $2749.99 after a reserve met no sale the week before at $4615.
Note the abbreviated firewall. You’ll need to address this if your going to go original rather than Ford V8. Wheel well flairs don’t look too bad.

Market 275: Refreshed red Spider in California
Giulietta Spider 10103/4 1495*08598. This car is on eBay right now out of Moss Beach California. Seller describes as it as a street quality restoration -I’d call it more of a refresh, but either way it’s a nice car with no immediate needs and the bones to be a really nice car with some attention to detail focused fiddling.
Paint almost looks wet. Door and hood shut lines look really good. Chrome is described as all new. A Ducati 900 SS beside it?

Market 277: 1300 Spider Project in the snow
This unidentified Giulietta Spider sold recently on eBay for $4550 after 15 bids. Sale included an extra engine and some other stuff. If anyone caught the vin number of this let me know!
This is a good ‘as found’ shot. Worth restoring just so you can show this picture beside the finished car.

Market 263: Spider 10103… Endless Restoration
Update 10/14/10:Car sold for $23,995 after 21 bids -a good result.
Update 10/11/10: Seller has made the smart move of installing that missing headlight, took some new photos and relisted it. About 3 days to go and it’s $16,000 as I write.

Update 10/6/10: 23 bids were placed resulting in a high of $17,100 with reserve not met. I’m not surprised from either end -it’s too far from done to go for more and too much has been invested to let it go for probably less than low $20K’s.
Giulietta Spider 10103*167419, 00102*14739. I’m aware that to call a car a stalled project or endless restoration isn’t very helpful, especially considering it seems to be the norm for a project to go unfinished for years, whether a rusty backyard ‘someday’ car or that concours restoration that would be done if the correct ‘LOBO’ bolts could be found for mounting the steering box, in anycase, this car, on eBay now out of Indiana, is the odd car that despite good intentions and a trickle of resources over the years, seems to have moved nearly perpendicular to a normal restoration path… -a lot remains to be done and redone (sadly) but it has survived, is rust free and includes a lot of really well prepared parts to assemble to it.
Avast ye mateys -where’s me eye patch ARRR. It’s hard to picture a red Giulietta Spider as a pirate. Looking not too bad here except the chunk of paint missing from the nose.

Market 234 II: Spider project in Carlsbad
Update 9/16/10 (later the same night): Eagle-eye Anderson has pointed out that this is in fact the same car as Market 234. Â I renamed it above…
Giulietta Spider 750D. This project is on Craigslist right now out of Carlsbad California -near San Diego. Seller is a repeat Giulietta vendor, having sold cars in Markets 95 and 116 whose prices are always fair and usually result in a second or even third sale at an inflated price by a small time dealer.
Not much bad to be seen here other than removed trim and a sense of disrepair.

Market 258: 101 Spider easy project
Update 9/16/10: $20,100 after 17 bids with reserve not met. Look for the follow up. I think video of it driving and audio of the engine woes might have helped.
Giulietta Spider 10103*170285. This car is on eBay right now out of Novi Michigan. Usually when I write about a car that I describe as a project it’s a challenging, rusty through and through hulk someone dredged from the bottom of a pond. Not so this car. The problem here is a rod knock in the engine requiring attention -what I consider an easy project
Great looking car. Paint is 30 years old but still shines, the only pitting described on the chrome is the windshield pillars.

Market 254: Spider Spider "Black Plate"."Desert Find!"
Update 9/7/10: This car sold for the buy it now price of $13,900 after 20 bids and a full run at auction -would’ve saved someone some trouble to just have gone for it right from the start.
Giulietta Spider 10103*171756, 00102*28201. After a mere 4 clicks (home, motors, used:alfa, this listing) from their homepage you can be looking at this car on eBay right now (or you can click on the link). It’s in Northridge California which makes me think it’s the same seller as the first who offered M213 on eBay. Buy it now is a probably realistic $13,900.
Don’t let the cops see this thing parked in a handicap spot unless it’s a spot for handicapped cars. Door and hood shut lines look about right. Yellow looks like the yellow used to ‘colorize’ black and white movies in the 80’s. Market 252: Barn find interim Spider 10104
Giulietta Spider 10104*09081. Sheesh! I go on vacation for 4 days and I somehow miss an auction entirely. This car was on eBay for about 5 minutes and has apparently been sold. Closing bid was $3950 -not sure if that was the selling price. Without further ado…
“Four score and tewnty years I spent locked in this thankfully dry and heated garage waiting for rescue…” Looks like a good car! Has Lucas (or Lucas type) mirrors. Dig that hard right pointing driving light.

Market 248: Spider # 00418 in NL
Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*00418. Elmar forwarded me a link to this car for sale and it looks like a good one for those who are enticed by early production numbers. I only have 14 earlier cars listed on my 750D register!
This looks as good as most of the cars that have gone through eBay in the last couple of months. Seller describes it as either a superb resto candidate or a good car to just put back on the road. Continue reading “Market 248: Spider # 00418 in NL”
