Update 4/25/11:Â Wrong engine… wrong nose… missing trim… $28,655.55… I think I would have sold it…

Originally posted 4/15/11: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10117 10120*00246. The latest to emerge from the woodwork since SS’s officially got expensive is this car on eBay right now out of Florida that scooterist Paul pointed out to me. I’ve seen it before -that nose is unmistakable, can’t remember when, but I think it had something to do with Bobcor, which I believe is no more.
It’s got nostrils. I’ve seen a few with this treatment. Some trim is missing up here. Hood fits good. Not bad on balance.

Market 308: 750D project in Texas.
Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03964. This car is available now on the Alfa BB for the asking price of either $13,000 or $16,000. Pretty decent starting point from a completeness standpoint. Not sure about the price as I haven’t seen thorough pictures of the rust, the engine is not original and the car in Market 304 was better most-of-the-way-around for $13,200 and had a real Pininfarina hard top.
Front end is not bad. Looks to have had some slight mishaps over the years. I like this color and it is original to this car.

Market 307: Don't blink or you'll miss 750E 06600
Giulietta Sprint Veloce ‘Confortevole’ 750E 1493*06600, 1315*31079. This very complete and very rough and one of about 200 so very rare SVC was on eBay for all of about 2 hours before being purchased, Buy it Now for $12,000. Seller listed the car in Columbia, SC. Thanks Corey for pointing it out!
Pulled from what would have been a leafy death just in the nick of time. Headlights look like original Carello units. Hood fits great. Door hinges work. No evidence of rubbing noses with anyone too aggressively. Hints of bluette paint? A winner!
Yep -$12,000 smackeroo’s. A good deal? I’m going to say yes, would have been a solid deal at the $20,000+ it would have made if it had sold through the usual 7 day auction. One of these cars hasn’t changed hands in a while -especially in project form on the open market.

Market 303: 1600 Spider racer project
Update 4/21/11: 20 bids resulted in $3050. About right I suppose.

Originally published 4/13/11: Spider 1600 10123*378082. One of the unfortunates -beaten and abused from living fast in its youth. Ready now for some respect and care.

Market 306: 2 Sprint package deal in Greece
Giulietta Sprint 10102*156687 & 750B 1493*09653. Dimitrios sent me an email letting me know this pair of cars was available from a private party in Greece for €31,000 -about $44,700. The first car is a good driver without the original engine and not a Veloce according to d’Amico and Tabucchi. Second car is all apart and in bare metal. Some of the more prominent trim can be seen in the pictures as can some duplicate mechanical stuff, but no mention is made of an engine or transmission. If you’re interested, send me an email and I’ll get you in contact with the seller.
First the driver. Externally this car is in good shape with excellent panel fit, very fine trim/chrome and that purposeful poise of a car that gets used. There are several pictures of this car in the Flickr set (click on the VIN to go there) participating in an event in Greece.

Market 302: Spider Veloce starter project
Giulietta Spider 10107 1495*07526. This car is available now from Jack L Hunt Automotive in San Rafael via Hemmings. Car is the odd combination of a transition 1300 Spider Veloce and a 1600 Normale engine. Seller says it comes with California Black Plates. Cool! Asking price is $24,500, only $74,500 cheaper than slightly younger sibling 07600 who made $99,000 at Amelia Island recently.
Great shut lines! Drivers door shuts as well. Nose is pretty good too.

Market 298: '55 Sprint project
Update 4/3/11: Bidding reached $10,260 after 19 bids but the reserve was not met. I was thinking maybe $15,000 or a little more. While it needs a total restoration, it is pretty complete and runs right now so you could do the job where you make everything work first, use it a bit then restore it once you’ve done your research and know it’s what you want to do.

Originally posted 3/22/11: Giulietta Sprint 750B 1493*00668, 1315*00744. Early Sprints like this one, currently at auction on eBay, seldom come up for sale. It is a daunting project, but with matching numbers and basically complete, including rare early aluminum hood and air cleaner, someone will very likely restore it. Thanks for the heads up on this car Brad!
Small headlights, aluminum hood, probably the early slightly shorter windshield among other things make this a desirable car. Shame it was let to sit and rot in the New Jersey winter for several years before being pushed indoors.

I feel fine
You all might have noticed I have a blog. I write about Alfa Romeo Giulietta/Giulia automobiles. I’ve been at it a while and I started the whole experiment because my particular Sprint -a humble, faded/mismatched paint 1959 101 normale of nearly the earliest variety, is just such a damn good car, so much so that my friend Moses called it magic at one point (31 mpg when driven as hard as possible?). Let me expound while I have your reviewing-the-last-sentence-for-continuity attention. Yesterday the sun shone for the first time in a few weeks here in xxxxx (insert usual descriptor that starts with ‘s’ here) California. Okay -yes, I pulled the cover off and drove my dusty Sprint for the first time in -er, well actually about 8 weeks. Was fun, down right inspirational and reminded me I need new tires. Another reason it’s so great? We have an understanding… I push the gas pedal and it goes. I push the brakes and it stops. I make odd circles with a handle on the door -about ten -and the window goes down etc. It gets dark and I pull a resistant knob on the dash and the lights come on. And the exhaust note…
Did I mention how great this car is? Okay -sorry, I guess I did. Complaints? Nothing that’s not my fault! Anyone have a pair of US market clear turn signal lenses they want to give me for free? I thought not… Please? I’ll throw in some amber ones for free.

Market 300: Spider racer project in Florida
Giulietta Spider 10103*171108. This car is on eBay right now out of Florida. Car would originally have had an 00102 series 1300 engine but auction includes a 00121 1600 Sprint Speciale/Spider Veloce engine and an unnumbered 1600 replacement block. Price is $23,500 to start and seller expects local pick up only -good luck with that.
Car looks pretty cool. Door and hood fit is excellent. I wonder what provenance this has as a racer.

Market 253: Spider Veloce driver in SF Bay Area
Update 3/21/11: This car is now listed by the seller in Hemmings. Price has been reduced to $32,000. Not a bad deal!
Original post 8/25/10: Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107 1495*10201. This car is available now in the San Francisco Bay Area for $39,875.   The seller has owned the car since 1985 and has been using it since. Engine in the car is not original and has been recently rebuilt but the original comes with the car.
Looks like a really nice patina on a well loved driver -the perfect compliment to my Sprint -alas I don’t have $40K burning a hole in my pocket…
