Market 494: Basketcase Sprint 750B 06248

Giulietta Sprint 750B 1493*06248, 1315*05668.  This jigsaw puzzle of a Sprint is on eBay out of Dallas.  Bumpers excepted it looks somewhat complete at first glance (Lionel is going to ask me to define complete again) but you have to wonder how useable all the parts are.  Some metal repair has been done, the quality of which is near impossible to determine without seeing it in person, but if you go into this assuming a lot of it will be redone to meet your very high standards, you can just pretend it still has gaping rust holes.  Pete’s has this car listed with a, $11,500 sticker price.  Not a bad deal for someone who already has one of these under restoration.

One wonders at the 56 year road that now sees this car stripped of parts and in primer in a gravel parking lot in Dallas.  Doesn’t look too bad from this angle if you are not afraid of fasteners. Continue reading “Market 494: Basketcase Sprint 750B 06248”

Market 493: Spider Veloce 10107 167610 for sale… no expense spared, no excuses

This car has appeared at Fantasy Junction and they have put it on eBay.  I saw it in person today and it is a thing of beauty.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107 167610.  Tom Sahines in the San Francisco Bay Area has put this fine specimen of a Spider Veloce on the market.  Tom has been the ARA tech hotline for as long as I can remember, and has deep knowledge of Alfa’s cars from Giulietta to 164 and probably beyond.  I’ve seen some of his restorations in person and they are astonishingly nice.  Ever the engineer, astonishingly nice to look at is not Tom’s main goal; astonishingly nice to drive is.  An unusual goal in a world where cars for resale tend to get the minimum attention to functionality.

The asking price is $140,000.  This may seem high, but a 750D in similar condition sold at Scottsdale for $140K.

All the usual praise applies: great panel fit, impeccable bright-work and lust inspiring luster.  Yes please!

Market 169: ’58 Spider Veloce survivor

Update 4/28/14: The owner of 04351 contacted me and reports that a restoration was completed about 18 months ago and It is currently being enjoyed in the South West.  He intended to keep the car as original as possible, but after digging in it became apparent there was more to do than anticipated and it slid down the usual slippery slope towards a full, though sympathetic towards its original state restoration.

Update 4/24/14:  I am currently going through close to 1000 Alfa Romeo sale records, verifying them for publication on The Fuelist, and I came across this charming specimen among the raw data.  I remember watching it reach $50,000 after some last minute aggressive bidding, and thinking – “Wow, these have hit the big time!”  Looking back from this moment, five years later, this car appears to have been very well bought.  Anyone here a proud owner?  Where is 04351 now??

Market 490: RHD SS 381030 coming to Silverstone Auctions

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381030, 00121*00578.  This rare RHD SS will be auctioned by Silverstone on February 22nd.  It’s a clean example if the pictures tell the truth.  I’m not sure why they are calling a mid-64 built car a 1967, but can speculate that it might have taken some time to go from Bertone to the RHD conversion folks and then to a dealer.  3 years?  I suppose it could have been a late 64 car sold in early 67.  Anyhow.

I like a good picture.  This is the view you get when you look up mid stoop after you drop your keys on a wet morning while approaching it to go motoring.  Description says it saw a bare metal respray recently.

Market 489: Spider project 10123 372516 “”Barn Find””

Update hours later: At $13,500 it suddenly seems a deal!  Anyone here buy this?

I admit, I missed a good write up.
Giulia Spider 10123*372516.  This car is on eBay out of Carlsbad -near San Diego- from Cavallo, seller of used exotics and mixed bag Craigslist find type cars.  Seller describes it as a “Barn Find”.  I’m not sure what the fascination is with putting phrases in quotes is… I would have thought putting barn find in quotes would make someone think it’s sort of like a barn find but not really a barn find.  That’s why the double quotes… I’m quoting their unnecessary quotes.  If they were to write a rebuttal, would they use something like is “””Barn Find””” when quoting me?  Sorry – it’s early, the sun has yet to even slightly light my vertical stripe of the planet.

Hello sporty!  Trim is all present and straight looking if a little bit dull.  They state car was originally red, but the engine compartment is sending me white signals – I suppose it could be red under that white – but that’s a lot of work! Market 488: Sprint 10102 remains

Giulietta Sprint 10102.  Brian, who occasionally sells very very nice Alfa’s pointed out that this car is available now from Beverly Hills Car Club.  BHCC seems to have a knack for turning up rough project European Sports cars.  I wonder if it has anything to do with their pervasive Google ad campaign I see whenever I use Gmail.  The numbers stated for the chassis and engine don’t make any sense except that I suspect the chassis number reported “652701” is actually part of the Bertone body number, and shorter by 1 digit than any other 101 Sprint Bertone number I have tracked.  It’s rough, but get it together with the shell on eBay out of the SF Bay Area, and you might have something.  Asking price of $8950 is a bit high, but as parts I suspect it could realize 70% of this.

This is one of the worst Still together Sprints I’ve ever sen.  Must have found a good place to hide when the hide and seek game started.

Market 487: 750 Spider 03714 in Beverly Hills

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03714.  Our friends at Beverly Hills Car Club have this 750 Spider based Abnormale on eBay right now.  It looks nice enough but has some originality issues that 5 years ago would probably not have been as big a deal, but with these cars getting expensive, buyers will be doing research, and be quickly confused.

Almost looks black.  Trim and panel fit is great.  Borrani’s all around.

Market 238: 58 Spider Veloce roller

Update 1/28/2014:  $99,000 premium live auction result.  This car has come a long way in almost 4 years.  “The course of true love never did run smooth…  So quick bright things come to confusion.”

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 10.32.49 PM

Update 7/31/10: Seller ended the auction early when an acceptable bid came in.  The new owner contacted me but a selling price was not revealed.  I’m going to guess somewhere between $15k – $20k.  New owner sounds enthusiastic about the car so hopefully the restoration will be seen through.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*03326, 1315*30818. This car is on eBay right now out of Michigan.  As far as mostly disassembled roller projects go it is a pretty good starting point having matching numbers, not too much rust (I know -but I’ve seen so much worse) and no real accident damage.  Step right up!

Nose looks great as a starting place -no ugly repairs to correct, no gaping rust holes and the Veloce intake divider seen here next to the drivers side marker light is in good shape.

Market 157: restored 101 Sprint in Australia

Update 1/20/2014:  This car found its way to Texas and recently sold through Driversource for about $45,000.  Still a nice looking example. This car was priced a bit on the high side back in 2009 or the market hasn’t moved much I guess.  I’ll split the difference.

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 1.56.10 PM

A great color for Sprints I think.

10/21/2009: Giulietta Sprint 750B 1493*06979, 1315*06197.  Frank sent me an email pointing out this car for sale at Classic Throttle Shop in Sydney Australia (who also has a VERY charming Fiat 850 panel van.). Asking price for this Sprint is AUD$43,995 or a little over $40,000 US.  A high price, but a very nice car.

2alfagiuliettaNothing to fault here.  Grills, headlight rings, lenses, bumper etc all look very nice.  A pair of period Carello headlamps would be the finishing touch, but Australia might have ordinances about headlight brightness that they actually enforce.  I have the wipers set that high on my windshield and they move around and chatter at speed, they need to be just at the edge of the windshield gasket on the up side of the free play since the 60 – 80 mph winds they will encounter while working will keep them at that position.  Repositioning mine is like job 1142 on my list of things to do.
