Market 238: 58 Spider Veloce roller

Update 1/28/2014: $99,000 premium live auction result. This car has come a long way in almost 4 years. “The course of true love never did run smooth… So quick bright things come to confusion.”

Update 7/31/10: Seller ended the auction early when an acceptable bid came in. The new owner contacted me but a selling price was not revealed. I’m going to guess somewhere between $15k – $20k. New owner sounds enthusiastic about the car so hopefully the restoration will be seen through.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 750F 1495*03326, 1315*30818. This car is on eBay right now out of Michigan. As far as mostly disassembled roller projects go it is a pretty good starting point having matching numbers, not too much rust (I know -but I’ve seen so much worse) and no real accident damage. Step right up!

Nose looks great as a starting place -no ugly repairs to correct, no gaping rust holes and the Veloce intake divider seen here next to the drivers side marker light is in good shape.

Market 485: Sprint 1600 project in SF Bay Area

Update 1/27/14: I went and had a look for a reader here who bought the car for close to asking price. Some aspects were better than expected, some worse – but a decent buy on balance.

Giulia Sprint 10112 AR358494. 00112*12332 Body 6531139. There was a time when I would be all over a project like this Sprint 1600 on eBay, but nowadays I’m nose down focused on doing adult stuff like growing a business so I can buy a house for Rufus to grow up in. I know what you’re thinking – 5 posts ago I was patting myself on the back for buying a Spider not unlike this in its requirement for commitment and effort – fair enough – but I have been rationalizing that purchase with the notion I might sell the Porsche or AH3000 to preserve space, funds and sanity. I am sitting a few minutes from the seller of this car, so if anyone wants me to check it out for them – I wouldn’t mind the excuse to go see it for myself.

Looks a bit like mine – even more like Aaron’s. No deal breaker issues from this angle. There was a time when old Sprints like this could regularly be found on the streets of Berkeley, San Francisco and other Bay Area cities. Lots of them sold new here.

Giulietta 750 Spider parts wanted

I’ve got the Spider at a shop getting the brakes done with some rebuild kits that Classic Alfa managed to get to me in two days from England, then it’s getting the wrinkly-under-bondo nose straightened out, the little bit of rust repaired and some other little stuff done. Andrew is putting a 1600 from a Super together for me to run until the 750 gets rebuilt. Anyway, I have some parts I need to source. I have some stuff to trade if there’s anything you need. Fair market gladly paid!

Outer exhaust manifold piece (1 and 4) for 4 bolt 750 (see picture)
Lucas tail light trim ring
750 water pump aluminum fan or complete rebuildable unit
front center grill with some ‘character’, but not too much
spare tire hold down hook and fancy screw (new will look too weird)
tunnel case gear shift lever that’s not all scaled over with rust
Little front Lucas clear turn signal lens and trim ring
Alfetta oil pan and pump
set of 165 SR 15 tires for my Healey (these get pulled of Giuliettas no?)
I’ll start pulling the 750 engine apart soon and will have more.

For you originality guys who have been wondering about the exact correct way to plumb a head mounted fuel pump. Do you get these lines dull cad plated?

The part of the header that goes to 1 and 4 is broken, so I need one – this is fairly urgent because I need it to put the 1600 in the car.

Market 428: Giulia Spider Veloce 10118 390417 -needs a little

Update7/12/13: This Spider is back on eBay after being cooped up for over a year. Samee pictures, so probably the same owner/seller. Have prices moved in 12 months?

July 5, 2012: Giulia Spider Veloce 10118*390417, 00121*01950. On eBay right now out of Novi Michigan -a city I’ve never heard of except as the source of a lot of eBay auctions for Alfa stuff. This car needs everything and is not for the faint of heart -but will yield an uncommon, very usable and valuable car when done. Some guys like the last of a breed, with all upgrades like disk brakes and more CC’s -if you’re one of those guys, this is the Spider for you. Me? I like the early stuff with small tail lights and drum brakes.

Lot’s of metal has been replaced along the wheel arch and rocker -looks to me like it will need touching up. Doesn’t look too scary here. I think lowering the soft top would be an improvement on presentation.

Market 479: Spider Veloce 10118 390616 -“very simple project”

Giulia Spider Veloce 10118*390616, 00536*07913 (not original). This Spider Veloce is on eBay right now out of Princeton NJ. The body looks to be in great shape and is described as having been finished to the point of being ready for paint. Original color was Black with probably red interior -a stunning combo! Biggest drawback I can see is the lack of the original engine. The 00121 engines it shares with the Giulia Sprint Speciale’s do come up, but not often and not cheap. I know where there is one right now…

Always a pleasure to behold. Stance is per original -not with the modern springs and all that lowers it quite a bit. Wheels are Borranis. Looks like a good place to start.

Market 476: Spider Veloce 750F 07012 project

Giulietta Spider 750F 1495*07012. This car is available now out of Bethel CT from a seller who seems to have a never ending supply of Alfa projects to offer up. This car is a late SWB 750 Veloce, a desire-able thing these days, and it looks to have most of the hard to get stuff under the hood. Asking price is $26,500. Not bad if the rust isn’t too crippling. Might be a good deal if you’ve been considering adding one of these to the fleet.

Flat black has the potential to hide a multitude of sins. Looks straight at least. I wonder if the trim is included. Note the engine in the back ground.

Market 473: Another project Spider: 10123 392585

Giulia Spider 10123*392585, 00112*16232. This very late (last one is 392852) Spider is on eBay right now. With so many expensive siblings having been listed here over the last few days, this one, at the current bid of $8100 seems positively cheap. Parts are pretty well supported for these now and the engines are straight forward to put together so this shouldn’t be too difficult a proposition. I am wondering if guys have been saving Spiders for Spring -there are a lot of them available right now.

I’d run this cosmetically as-is except for the bare metal rocker and rusty wheels. Door and hood fit is good, front trim looks great. Continue reading “Market 473: Another project Spider: 10123 392585”

Market 359: Spider 09537 New York

Update 4/20/13: Hard to argue with the same result twice.

Update 3/31/13: This car has turned up on eBay again. Although it has been 14 months since it was listed, the same pictures are being used. I don’t think the market for a Spider like this has moved up much, so I suspect a similar result to the last time. I like the last line of the ebay description: “Look close, see the reserve? See the buy it now? I didn’t think so, there is NOT a buy it now, and the reserve is private. That’s how I thought it worked. I am an honest guy, selling an honest car, running this AUCTION honestly. I don’t want to play any games. Thank you.” I’m not sure how effective coming across as prickly is as a first impression, but then the notion of an ‘online persona’ is generally accepted.

Update 1/9/12: $15,101 is the sale price after 5 bids. That’s pretty solid money.

Giulietta Spider 10104*09537. This Spider is on eBay out of New York with a starting bid of $8,000. Condition is pretty reasonable as the start of a light ‘run it as is’ type project. Seller says it doesn’t run currently and has had some floor repairs. It comes with a hardtop that is one of the made in California FiberFab (??) type. I like the license plate!

It really doesn’t look bad. It could be the basis of a decent driver without much fuss. The engines can always be made to run, but will probably require a minor overhaul. I like them without the grill ‘eyebrows’..

Market 461: SS 10120 00209 ran out of steam

Update 4/20/13: Seems reasonable, but reserve not met.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00209. Beverly Hills Car Club, purveyors of many a busted up Alfa has this SS listed on eBay. It appears to have been shut down a month or two into a in earnest restoration. A lot of the bits are bolted on -out of convenience probably, and it looks like quality work was done on the body. Anyone know this car? As far as I can tell it’s a new addition to my lists.

Cute 105 era marker light. Wheels are probably the Heinbrand replicas. Headlight rings don’t look like SS items to me -Fiat 124 Spider perhaps? Door fit is questionable. Continue reading “Market 461: SS 10120 00209 ran out of steam”

Market 65: same old sad story 61 Spider

Update 3/25/13: Hard to believe it, but this is the same car after several years of restoration work. Bravo! It can be done.

Great work has been accomplished on this car. I think this started out as one of those borderline hopeless projects.

Update12/2/08: This car ended at $4606, reserve not met. I predicted $4500 so I’d be the big winner on The Price is Right and win my choice of a brand new Ford Escort wagon, a Mercury Sable or a kick in the head by a steel-toed boot. Do I get a shot of Whiskey first? I digress… If I was the seller I’d be willing to let this car go to the high bidder for the end bid if they were willing. Of course they probably paid $7000 for it, thinking it was super rare and valuable but not taking the nonexistant economy into account. Look for the follow up.

Giulietta Spider AR1495*11804. This car is available right now on eBay out of Medfield MA. Fusi lists this car as a 10103 series 1960 Spider, that year production ending with car 11900. This car would be the perfect companion piece to the rusty Sprint that was the subject of Market #58 both needing extensive rust repair and well… everything else.

I have a great idea, I’ll do an experiment to see what 20 years under a blue tarp in a cold wet climate will do to a car, and not just any car, I’ll find a really clean Alfa Spider. This is truly sad. Note that all the trim, with the exception of one headlight ring, is present and straight.
