Sprint Speciale market reviews 2008

You know I like the SS’s so I’ll start my long overdue 2008 Market Review’s with them.  Below are the SS’s I wrote about in 2008 in order of cheapest to most expensive.  I didn’t keep as good of records when I first started this project so I ended up editing the posts along the way which made this project take a lot longer than it should have.  Enjoy.

Market 36 was this unidentified incomplete rusty hulk for 1000 Euro’s.  At least it rolls.

Sprint Speciale market review 2009.

There were 14 SS’s listed for sale in 2009 that I wrote market reports for. They are listed below in order of asking or if known selling price from least expensive to most, with me making prices up for a few as necessary.

Market 64 is for Giulietta SS 10120*00147. Asking price was $25,000. I think it’s still available. Not sure what it would take to buy it at this point. Market 131 makes this asking price seem very high.

Market 171: SS 10120*00474 in Europe.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00474, 00120*01042.  This car is available now on several European classified listing services.  Price is 35,000 pounds -about $56,900 at the time of writing.  I have this car on the Production and Register page as being in the USA, I guess it’s on the move.

I have decided against red, mainly because my Sprint is red, but this car has me reconsidering.  Appearance of this car is what you would expect for an expensive example.  I almost just typed that this car is a mid-range car after yesterdays $125,000 effort.  This is a good solid ready to use car.

Market 156: Giulia SS 380642 in Italy

Giulia Sprint Special 10121*380642.  While perusing their garden of arcane delights I found this announcement on Anamera of Coys intent to auction this Padova Italy based car.  Estimated selling price is 38,000 Euro’s or $56,700 of our recently depressed US dollars.  I would call this near retail for a nice SS that is not really perfect but doesn’t have much in the way of wants.

380642 frontIt’s always tough to judge these cars because even the slightest deviation from a perfectly head on picture makes them look a little asymetric.    Drivers side corner of this car looks ever so slightly lower than passenger corner and all it takes to cause this is an odd reflction.  It’s all part of the hand made charm.  Bright work is all present and pretty good, though I would guess the headlights are mismatched in some way -whether age or brand.  Where in Italy is GR? Market 145: Giulietta SS 00347 in Belgium

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00347.  This car is available right now in Belgium from Marreyt-classics.  It was assembled in France by Renault which means it has a glass brake fluid reservoir and a special build plate.  It probably also has a town/country horn set up and would have had all yellow headlights.

DSC05445This car is probably Bosphoro blue, one of the more common non red/white colors you find SS’s in.  Sitting here in the sun this car looks excellent.

Market 143: RHD Giulia SS project

Update 9/15/09: This car sold for 16,100 pounds “inclusive of buyer’s premium” which I think means that the fees associated with the sale are included in this number.   This is $26,500 in our US money and about what I would have predicted had it been on eBay instead of at a live auction in England.  Assuming the buyer inspected this car before bidding, I imagine the condition of the body was better than expected from a rust point of view.

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*380459, 00121*00897.   Bonhams will be auctioning off this Speciale on September 12th 2009 at their Beaulieu National Motor Museum auction.  Bringatrailer brought this car to my attention and their write up is right on.  Pictures are limited, but even the best pictures tend to be misleading.  If you are looking for a right hand drive SS, make the trip to the auction.

untitledI suppose you could turn that slotch into a number meatball.  Other than being dirty it seems to fit together well and being an Alfa, it could probably be put on the road without too much fuss as just about every part needed is available and not expensive.

Market 131: Dad’s Giulietta SS, #455 up for sale

Update 7/20/2009.  Car sold for $27,102 making my SS project seem insanely overpriced and ambitious.  I say this car was very well bought and will probably represent a bargain, then again, I haven’t seen a really strong verifiably sold SS in a while, perhaps the market has cooled.  What do you think?

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00455, 00120*00964. This car is on eBay right now out of Florida from the son of the long time owner. Condition is to my eyes enviable as I like the archaeological aspects of cleaning up a car that has been off the road for awhile. This car is the perfect example of what ‘easy restoration’ should mean.

!BWQ4pQwCGk~$(KGrHgoOKjsEjlLmVqugBKWlzhPZKQ~~_1It’s an SS, of course it’s good looking. All the nose trim looks well fitted and correct. White is a good color on these cars. Note windshield trim is missing.

Market 124: Selling my SS and Spider

Giulietta Spider 10103*370645.  Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00413.  I am streamlining my operation, or, I suppose you could say simplifying my life while simultaneously lowering my overhead.  My goal at the end of the year is to have, gasp, one Alfa (no Fiats or vintage Toyotas) and no Second Mortgage.  Which Alfa is it going to be?  Probably the Sprint, but even that is not totally decided.  I am starting with the Spider and SS because they are frankly the easiest to let go.  Check out my For Sale page for more details.  I’ll post inventories of what comes with each next week.

giulietta spider before and after The nose and it’s nice original paint coming out.

Market 108: Well traveled Giulietta Sprint Speciale

Update 4/21/09: This car sold for $38,300 with 10 bids.  I am very surprised at this result.  This is a nice car than can be driven immediately!  The two tone silver car needed a lot and sold for $3000 less than this.  The white Giulia SS is probably in similar condition to this but hasn’t been used much and the seller of that car wants $47K FIRM (his caps).   Bad timing maybe?  Who knows.  Well bought I say if the seller lets it go.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*177380, Engine 00120*01735.  On eBay now is this very nice example from right here in California.  I seem to remember this car selling via the AlfaBB a few years back (before I started this blog) for about $22K with engine teething problems and 69 GTV seats, I looked in emails past and found an inquiry about it by me on 9/14/05.  To look at it now and by the description, it sounds like the seller took it on and improved everything that needed improving.

SS 177380 noseI kind of like it without the grill wiskers.  Car is so blue here it almost looks black.  Nice. Seller states grill whiskers are included and in good shape.
