Market 424: restored 1965 SS in Toronto

Update 8/12/12: Not surprisingly it failed to meet reserve and sell. It’s probably a nicer car than can be told from the pictures, but only better pictures will tell.

Update 7/21/12: Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*380813, 00121*00914. As expected this car has turned up on eBay with slightly more comprehensive pictures and vin numbers. I’m sure there are excited emails and phone calls going on right now between Drivers Source/Classic Invest and probably other ‘opportunity spotters’ and the seller as I type. Car looks good. Better pictures are required.

Giulia Sprint Speciale. This car is on Craigslist right now out of Toronto.  There is no real information about the car other than the pictures where it looks pretty good.  Appraised at over $100K?  I guess that’s where to start the negotiation.

Nothing to complain about here.  Bosphorus blue?  Dutch blue?  Hood fits great.  Is that a 128 and a Yugo in the back ground?  I think so…  Good to know this car has been in austere company.  Grill doesn’t look right.

Market 291: Driver Giulia SS in Texas

Update 7/16/12: This car has appeared for sale on eBay in Europe out of Southern California from a Zero feedback seller. Scam? Hmmm.

Update 3/17/11: 75 bids resulted in $62,750.  It’s no joke, game on for SS values!

Update 3/14/11: Bidding has reached  $40,000 and reserve is met with 2 days to go.  The suspense begins!

Giulia SS 10121*381379. This car is on eBay right now out of Texas.  Bidding is at just shy of $30,000 with 4 days left as I write.  This car is truly in ‘how you used to find them’ condition and frankly may be as much as $80,000 away from being a top money car, but for a capable DIY restorer that restoration number could get down to $40,000.  Why do I mention this?  See yesterdays post, which the seller references in their write up, a Giulietta SS sold for $140,000 at the Amelia Island auction.  This is a great place to start, but it still has to be reduced to nuts, bolts and bare metal and built back out to get in the league that car is in.  Then it has to find a buyer… Or it could be let alone, touched up, enjoyed and entered in the preservation class some day.

Looks great from this distance, through the lens of a camera after being hosed down.  Note dent above headlight.  Antennae has to go to.

Market 415: Giulia Sprint Speciale 381399 -the last one

Update 7/1/12: Imagine that.

Update 6/23/12: Driver’s Source out of Houston, who seems to specialize in buying high and trying to sell even higher, has this SS for sale now for a whopping $198,000. It is, if photo’s be believed, a stunning car, but I’m not sure the world is ready for a Giulia SS at this price point. All prior high sales have been Giulietta’s (anyone??).

Original post 4/20/12: Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381399.  Michael has made me aware that Ferrari of Seattle is selling this car right now for $125,000.  A pretty good deal if the last two projects I listed for $60,000 each are really worth that.  Just think, no bodywork, no rust repair, no parts hunting.  Just fly in, write a check, add it to your insurance and drive home.  Oh, and if you’re one of those people who likes ‘interesting’ VIN’s, this is the last SS they made.

Great color!  Everything looks straight and clean in this picture.  Is there anything to the theory that a high-end dealer would risk reputation selling a less than perfect car? Maybe. This will sell immediately I think.

Market 333: SS Project 00486 in Ohio

Update 6/21/12: Didn’t take long for the 50+% dealer tax to be added to this car.  More pictures show it to be complete and needy.  Here it is in Denver.

I definitely don’t like the look of knock-offs. Pretty straight car.

Original post 11/5/11: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00486, 00120*00949.  Frank pointed me in the direction of this car listed on Hemmings.  Condition is pretty good and it should make for a straight-forward restoration to ‘clean driver’ without going too far under water at the $40,000 asking price.  For a full on restoration it will require just as much work as a car like the disassembled project I listed recently.  Wheels are very rare (on a Giulietta) Borrani wires complete with a spare.  I’m personally not a big fan of the wire wheel look, but many are.

Am I blue?  Yes, but not the right shade.  Looks pretty good as far as derelict SS’s goes.

Market #1: White Giulia SS project

Update 5/31/12: Now on Craigslist.  Look at the pictures at the bottom of this write up. Looks like the same car to me. I wonder what you would receive if you sent them $25K?

Update 9/20/10: A Giulia SS was listed on Craigslist this morning for $30,000 with pictures of this car.  A scam?  Borrowed pictures?  I’m sure it will be answered before long…

5/20/09 Update: SOLD after 377 days! A guy I spoke to on the phone about this car last month, giving advise etc, has taken the plunge and bought this car.  I told him exactly what I have been saying about this car all along, it’s probably a good car that everyone interested in an SS is tired of seeing for sale (you only get one shot at a good eBay auction).  The selling price was around $45K and he seems very happy with the purchase.  Look for it to be present at shows and events in Southern California.  If anyone knows a good place to get keys made in Southern California post a comment as he needs to get door, trunk and glove box keys made.

I bet the seller of this SS would be happy if one of you kind readers would buy his 1965 Flavia Sport Zagato that is currently on Craigslist for $26,000 or trade.

3/31/09 Update: I think it will be a while before another car is featured here so many times. This car is on eBay again and this time it can be bought NOW for $47,500. Lets see if my ‘auction fatigue’ theory holds true. Now is your chance, you know you want it. I’ll offer the correct gauges to the new owner at 10% off.

3/18/09 Update: This car is now all repainted and spiffied up. Check it out on eBay now. $56,000 asking is big money but the car is pretty nice now.

Market 314: Giulietta SS Lownose 10120 00061 in aluminum

Update 5/15/12:  On the hammer this car sold for $195,804!  The low end of the estimate, but, it’s easy to spend other peoples money… I’d have sweated every dime. Not a bad purchase price for a nearly unique car.  Someday I’ll be in the running for cars like this -off to get a lotto ticket!

Update 4/21/12: Big money car needs a big money venue -so without further fooling around, this car is now being run through an RM auction in Monaco this May. Expected sale price $185,000 – $235,000. Not bad for what may well be one of the ‘best of breed’ SS’s. I sure want it!  Stuart- thank you for alerting me to this auction.

Market 414: SS 381122 ‘Boy Racer’ in Germany

Update 4/27/12: No sale at $47,000. Would you have sold?

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381122.  Marty hipped me to this car  on eBay out of Germany right now that’s currently sitting at a comical $6100.  Body is in good shape if the shiny paint doesn’t hide any problems.  It has been gutted and set up for weekend racing and as such has a lot of shortcomings as a contender on today’s SS market.  Engine is not correct, nor are seats and some other stuff.  Wouldn’t be a shame to do with this as you will since it’s already altered quite a bit.  Wasn’t someone looking for a good SS to turn into a race car??

I wonder what the story is?  I am thinking this car is from when an SS was a $18,000 car and it was a parts donor for another better one.  Body looks really good.  Seller claims no rust -lets hope so.  Germany has VERY strict rules about how fit cars are to be on the road, so if it’s road registered it’s probably pretty good.

Market 412: timewarp crashed in ’79 Giulia SS 1323

Update 7/1/12: Curious what happened to this car?  BaT is running a series of updates from the buyer.  Looks like it’s landed in good hands.

Update 4/16/12: Asking price has been confirmed to be $60,000! Still a better deal than the red one that just ended on eBay for just under $60K.

Update 4/10/12: Car has gotten some press on BaT, lots of experts with short attention spans chiming in in the comments section.  I don’t think this car rolled over -had an off-road excursion rather.  I maintain -not a bad project.

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381323. This car is on Craigslist right now out of New York. It was purchased after an accident of some sort and mothballed until now, with the tow drivers grease pencil writing still on the windows. Body has some serious problems in the roof area, but I’m pretty sure most restorers would rather tackle some roof dents than rust.  I think the survival of this car is proof that there are a lot more SS’s out there than seems possible.

What happened.  Crashed into a tree that then fell on it?  Not nearly as bad as it would be if it was stored out doors.

Market 407: Castle find SS project in France 10120 00440

Update 4/6/12:  Car reached an underwhelming $15,099.  I’ve heard of 00120 engines selling for about $10K, so this is pretty cheap for this car, regardless of how busted up you think it is.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00440 This car is on eBay out of France right now. Seller commented a few days ago about the availability of this car, wanting to post here, but I was away from the internet for a few days and now here it is on eBay. The car is said to have been vandalized and stripped of parts, but it looks solid enough to be viable for someone, and since these have gone up in value, more parts -especially trim bits, are available new.  Car received ‘final assembly’ in France by Renault -part of their trade agreement for car imports.

Nice color combo!  Looks like that late 60’s GTV color, and the blacked out bumpers are an interesting touch.  Kind of looks like the car was driven into a corner, creating angled dents at each headlight.

Market 386: Giulia SS 381335 in Northern California

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10121*381335, 00121*01326.  My local purveyors of high-end collectible cars -Fantasy Junction -have just listed this late Giulia SS.  It’s as nice as expected from them.  I think I have pictures of this car somewhere from about 10 years ago when it was for sale for less than 10% of the current $149,000 asking (Andrew, is this the car you sent me pictures of?) -my how times change.  Is this the SS apocalypse where all the nice ones start at recent high-profile auction house prices?  Why not.

Red.  Looks good in all the ways it should.  This looks like the Berkeley/Emeryville waterfront.  Used to be all sandy beaches in the 1800’s where locals did the sort of stuff people do at sandy beaches like swim in wool and drink Bourbon, but the city (or was it the railroad robber barons?) sold all the sand for 50 cents per wagon load over a somewhat long period-probably thinking there was an infinite supply.  I wonder what they thought that day when the last load was loaded up.  Hmmm -we screwed up I think -kids crying on the now rocky shore etc, gentle water suddenly become treacherous.  There’s a little sand there now between Ashby and University, but nothing like pictures I’ve seen -of course we now get pretty plastic and oil slick type debris so no one hangs out there much anyway -especially if Marin accidentally discharges ‘lightly treated’ waste water.  Oh, wait, this is about a red SS.  Nice car.
