Market 132: Maybe the nicest 1600 Sprint I’ve seen

Giulia Sprint 10112*353213.  This car is currently on eBay out of Belmont California.  It still wears it’s original black plates and looks to be a well cared for original rather than a restored car.  I like!  Notice also that it’s serial number is one before this car, another San Francisco Bay Area Sprint.  Opening bid is at the desired sale price of $27,000.

Market #12: Craigslist basket case 1963 Sprint

Update 5/1/09: 12 bidders chimed in and the result was $1525, reserve not met.  A little lower than I would have thought, but getting all the bits together is going to cost.  I have a lot of what it needs, I wonder what it would take to buy it?

Update 4/21/09: Giulia Sprint 385940 is now on eBay after either having all it’s trim, lights and other bits stripped and sold, or applied to another car the seller may have. I told you a bunch of Sprints would follow that $18.7K car.

I shouldn’t assume the current seller is the previous seller, but for convenience I will.

Market 109: 1600 Sprint presentable driver

Update 4/25: This car sold for $16,350 with 24 bidders.  Not a bad result for a later Sprint that had no effort made to show any potentially rusty areas.  I think a trip to the detail shop like the subject of Market 106  would have resulted in better pictures which in turn would have resulted in a higher sale price.  If the new owner is interested in lower body trims, I think a set is on eBay right now.  Well bought I suspect.

As I mentioned after the last Sprint sold on eBay for $18,700, they are probably going to be coming out of the woodwork with sellers trying to capitalize on that cars success. The beauty of this particular example is it can be driven immediately by the new owner and comes with the valuable original engine as well as an installed Giulia Sprint GT Veloce unit.

sprint-marchalI like this view of Sprints. Nice Marchal headlamp. Headlight ring looks a little distorted. Auction description says this area was repaired after an accident prior to the sellers ownership. My Sprint has been hit twice in this area. Oh well.

Market 107: UK based Giulia 1600 Sprint project

Giulia 1600 Sprint 10112*356956.  This car is available right now on eBay.UK.  According to the Production and Register it was made in 1963, making it one of the last Sprints.  Lots of work has been done and it sounds like it is ready for paint and assembly.

Market #53: Late 1600 Giulietta Sprint

Update 1/5/09:  This car is still available and the seller is looking to get about $25,000 for it. 

Giulia Sprint 1600 AR357309. This car is available right now on eBay and bidding is currently $18,000 Fusi says this is a 1963 Giulia Sprint 1600, no engine number is stated but it was originally a Tipo 00112 probably about 08000. Bertone number is probably about 6530000.

I’ve seen this car before on the AlfaBB and the seller seems to have a handle on what these cars are about so I am confident this is a car that is as good as it looks.

These late Sprints are neat because they have the classic Bertone Giulietta Sprint shape combined with the updated components being phased in with the Giulia Sprint Speciale, Giulia Sprint Veloce (step-nose GTV) and Giulia TI.

Market #51: 1964 Sprint rally/race car

Our friends over at bring a trailer have this car on offer from a collection in Southern California.  If it’s a 1964 it’s probably a Giulia 1600 Sprint.  The car is reported to have been a French market car which means it probably had a few oddities like a glass brake fluid bottle when it was new.  Alfa and Renault had a deal worked out that reduced the import tax on Alfa’s and allowed Alfa to make Dauphines and R4’s in Italy.  I’ll explore this relationship in a later post. 

This car looks like a pretty straight, lightly modified, used but not abused car that would clean up nicely and make a great driver.  Asking price is $30,000 which seems optimistic, but a trip to Orange County may find this car to be better than it appears and it probably has excellent provenance from its time on the track.

The absence of the egg-crate grills on this car makes it look tough.  I’d put some Cibie Oscars on either side of the grill heart.  All the visible trim and shut lines look good.  I like the orangy-red and would look forward to cleaning and polishing this car if I bought it.

Market #28: Rough Giulia 1600 Sprint project

Reserve not Met.  Auction ended at $3300 on 7/6/08.  This ending price is probably the parts value of the car.  I would guess the reserve was $3500 or $4000.  Car has been relisted and I’m not sure but I think there are additional photos.

Giulia Sprint 1600 10112*356469. Yet another project Sprint from the eBay seller out of Newport Beach. Whoever bought the subject of Market #11 might consider this car as a co-project to make two into one from with that car. With values where they are today a Sprint like this is in a much better position for survival than it has ever been. That said, I think this car is a better value as a source of parts than as a restoration project, though the optimist in me would love to see it restored.

The body is for the most part straight, with the usual decent panel gaps and trim fit. It has rust issues, probably not terminal but challenging. Replaced rear drivers corner could hide major headaches, but with cut out and weld in rust repairs to do anyway it would probably fade to background noise by the time you got to it.

Even in near death the Sprint is beautiful. Drivers side headlight is neat period Marchal unit. Headlight rings mismatch. Front bumber in picture is not original.
