Market 239: Giulietta Spider 750D 05488

8/11/10: No more beating around the bush -the car has been listed for $35K ‘buy it now’ or ‘make offer’.  Throw an offer their way between the last high bid and the asking and maybe it can be yours.

8/10/10: 19 bids saw this car make $22,200 but the reserve was not met.  Seller says they have the correct seats which is a plus.  This car will probably be relisted and reach about the same high bid.  I’m beginning to think eBay is not really suited for cars like this.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*05488, 1315*44524. This car is on eBay right now out of South Carolina.  Condition is along the lines of well cared for drivers with some hidden blemishes and unoriginal parts -seats the most glaring feature in this category.

Hood fit is good, paint looks okay but not great.  Trim -especially bumpers is presentable but not excellent.  Just my kind of car!

Market 244: Early Spider at Gooding auction

Update 8/26/10: So, word is this car sold somewhere in the mid-$70K’s to a rich guy from Mexico.  Rumor?  I’ll try and find out.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*00724, 1315*40670. Gooding and Co. will be auctioning this 1956 Spider off at their Pebble Beach auction held August 14th and 15th.  There is no reserve and the selling price is expected to be $70,000 – $90,000.  Big money, but as the auction text states, this car is ‘striking’, ‘eligible’, ‘iconic’ and ‘superb’ -the full thesaurus treatment.  I occurs to me that if this car makes money in the stated range it will be the most expensive production 750D recorded.

Paint looks amazing as do the shut-lines and trim. Stance is about perfect.  Someone spent some money.

Market 213: Spider 750D 01503, very nice project

Update 8/9/10: This car has turned up for sale yet again, this time on San Francisco Bay Area craigslist for $29,500  I find it hard to believe work to the tune of about $10K has been done to it but it’s a free country and a fool and his money…

It really doesn’t look like a bad car and I understand that where there’s a buck to be made it will be made, but at least rattle-can that rust spot on the front wheel so we get the sense that some work has been done to earn the mark-up.

Update 5/1/10: 23 bids pushed the price up to $14,100 but the reserve was not met.  I wouldn’t have sold it for that either.  What’s fair for this car?  The market will eventually decide, but my opinion is somewhere between $16k and $18k, maybe a little more if it’s better in person than the pictures, but that’s not usually the case.  I think the appearance of another early 750D in slightly better shape derailed this auction a bit.  List it again after an eBay Giulietta Spider dry spell but before the Monterey weekend Alfa 100 year celebrations and things should go well.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1493*01503. This car is on eBay right now out of Northridge Ca.  Seller is pretty well known in the Alfa world and a straight shooter as they say.  Car was on Craigslist not long ago… can’t remember when or where exactly but I think in 2010 and I think in Colorado for I think about $15K.  If you are looking to restore an early one in the rolling restoration style then this is your car to start with!

Very nice and straight other than a bump in the bumper.  Hood fit is not quite right on the passenger side but not terrible or anything.

Market 235: Perfect project, 750D Spider

Update 7/26/10: 34 bids, $12,100 result.  About right for this car.  Hopefully on its way to a loving new home!

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*03571, 1315*41225 (originally 43319). This  black plate, early 1958 car is on eBay right now out of southern California.  Original color looks to have been Celeste (light blue), a favorite of many on these early cars.  Condition is as good as one could ask for in a starting point project car to fully restore.

This car reminds me a lot of the subject of Market 120. While this is a fantastic starting point restoration candidate -one should be tempted to leave it alone and just make it work for now. Nose bump is very pronounced on this car.  Hood fits pretty good. Follow up pictures show some poor repairs in the lower areas of the nose but nothing horrible.

Market 234: Spider 750D in San Diego

Update 7/19/10: This car has sold for $5350 with 22 bids.  Sounds cheap but when you start adding up the hours and parts to make it decent you toe the break even line the whole way.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*05223. This car is available now on eBay out of San Diego.  Someone took a crusty project and threw a coat of resale red on it -someone with the right skill set could probably pay themselves a modest hourly wage to finish this up on the cheap for the second round of resale.

Ah the pretty pretty red, too bad there is close to zero possibility of giving this car all it needs and not having to do a bunch of touch up or repaint.  This is what the suspension does when it’s original and the engine is out.  Windshield is partially present.

Market 233: 57 Spider Project

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*01440, 1315*41401. This car is on Craigslist right now out of Portland Oregon.  Condition is above average for the $5000 base price considering it comes with about thousands in new and used parts gathered.  Seller says it goes for the highest offer over $5000 on August first.

Spend a couple of months chopping on it to install a V8 and voila!- you have a $2500 car.  Hood is not bolted down -nose looks to have been punched once upon a time.

Market 232: VSCCA 101 1300 Spider

Update 7/26/10: 2 bids, $33,000 selling price.  Not bad.

Giulietta Spider 10104 1495*09366. This Spider racer is for sale on eBay right now out of Putnam Valley, New York.  Seller states it has a VSCCA log book, runs great and is ready for action.  Price is a little higher than I would think but it is rust free and race engines are expensive to build well, so maybe the $35K option will be exercised.

Red on green is always a good look. This car is very low.  I like the grill bars only look.

Market 231: new second rustiest Spider 750D

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*06844, 1315*45467. Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria New York is offering this hedge/bog find Giulietta Spider right now for $4950.  The rust situation with this car is palpable and even the most optimistically rigorous DIYer should be taken aback.  The good: very complete, super low miles (assuming the speedometer was functional for every mile the car traveled), one owner (who is culpable in the death of this car)… the bad: pretty much everything.

I wonder if pulling a car like this from its resting place would be considered grave robbery… sand blasting may result in this cars disappearance.

Market 214: 1600 Spider rolling restoration

Update 7/26/10: This car has had a string of unsuccessful runs on eBay the last few weeks -the latest seeing bidding hit $10,850 with reserve not met.  I’d have a hard time swallowing a $3100 loss too…

Update 7/1/10: This Spider finds itself back on eBay after a few weeks vacation in Santa Barbara.  Assuming the full price of $12,850 was paid and it was shipped out to California -I will guess the new reserve is about $14,000 -a tough sell but may be doable.

Looking about the same as before.

Update 5/10/10: I should get paid to do this.  As I predicted it sold for slightly more than the AlfaBB asking after a run through eBay.  $12,850 with  30 bids.  Well Sold and if the engine is put together competently well bought.

Update 5/3/10: This car is now on eBay which means there is a finite amount of time before it is sold.  That’s the beauty of eBay -unless you screw it up by starting too high or having an unrealistic reserve, your car is going to sell.

A little leg never hurt a picture of a car.

Giulia 1600 Spider 10123*372577, 00112*00584. This car is available for $12,500 out of Arlington VA of on the Alfa BB.  Seller is a well known AROC guy who has several other Alfas and seems to know his stuff where these cars are concerned.  Car is a runner/driver and, while quality paint before reassembly seems like a good idea, one could probably just throw it together and start using it if  cosmetics were not an issue.

Nose has been replaced but doesn’t look too bad here.  Would be a decent ‘driver’ quality car if all this trim was bolted on.

Market 227: Needy Spider Roller 09363

Update 6/24/10: Is $8601.50 a good deal for this car?  Not sure, but that’s what it sold for.  I’d like to see a little less rust for that money, but it is nearly complete.

Giulietta Spider 10103/4 09363, 00102*25390. This Spider is on eBay right now out of Illinois from a seller who seems to always have a few Giulietta bits on offer.  Condition is the usual straight clean car with some race history that was allowed to get rusty during a period of neglect.  Bidding is just shy of $5K as I write.

Nose is in good shape, hood fits well and the original paint was probably salvagable before rust was allowed to snack on this car.  I wonder what the ‘CP’ racing group is?
