Market 125: Giulia Spider project 10123*379887.

Update 6/28: 29 bidders duked it out and the high bidder got this car for $6433.  Not bad, not bad at all.  Seller is probably back in the green on the sale and high bidder got if nothing else a fabulous parts car or tough but do-able project.

Giulia Spider 10123*379887 is available on eBay now out of Lafayette California, just over the hill from me. It wears Texas plates and has some significant but not terminal underside rust so don’t let the California auction mislead you. It is however an unmolested example (unmolested is another way of saying ignored), ready for restoration so the new owner will be the first one to take anything apart and begin the process.

379887 noseAppears to have been molested a little to the left of the grill. Center badge is missing (cheap repro is available) and so is the grill eyebrow above the license plate. All in all pretty good up here.

Market 124: Selling my SS and Spider

Giulietta Spider 10103*370645.  Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00413.  I am streamlining my operation, or, I suppose you could say simplifying my life while simultaneously lowering my overhead.  My goal at the end of the year is to have, gasp, one Alfa (no Fiats or vintage Toyotas) and no Second Mortgage.  Which Alfa is it going to be?  Probably the Sprint, but even that is not totally decided.  I am starting with the Spider and SS because they are frankly the easiest to let go.  Check out my For Sale page for more details.  I’ll post inventories of what comes with each next week.

giulietta spider before and after The nose and it’s nice original paint coming out.

Market 121: A tale of 3 red 1600 Spiders

Update 6/2/09: Canada Spider is no longer available for sale.  I guess they got cold feet about a last minute bid surge.  Okay folks, here it is, the secret to a solid auction: start very low, $1 is good, provide ample information on the car you are selling and high quality pictures, have no reserve and let the auction play out. If you need a shill bidder to establish a fake reserve, so be it, but if you are unrealistic, your car won’t sell.  If you look carefully at these three auctions my advice is substantiated.  Look for another mediocre auction featuring then now passe Canada Spider.  Sigh.

Update 6/1/09: Colorado Spider sold for $17057,95 with an amazing 48 bids. Staten Island ‘Spyder’ sold Buy it Now for $13,500. Apparently the seller got excited and lowered the buy it now price. Canada Spider still has some time left. It looks like it will out-do its last sold price of $17,600, having 1 bid at $18,999 right now.

It’s not often there are 3 red Spiders on eBay at the same time in similar condition. With the market thus flooded it might not be a bad time to make a play for that Spider you’ve always wanted.

Canada noseGiulia Spider 1600 10123*xxxxxx is in Canada with a starting bid of $18,999, no bids as of now. This is its second pass on the eBay carousel. There are a lot of poor quality pictures and not much information about the actual car at auction (simply described as ‘restored’) among the published model specifications. Stated to have 46,292 miles.

372601 noseGiulia Spider 1600 10123*372601 is in Colorado and currently at $11,100 with 24 bidders. This auction features 4 poor quality pictures and no relevant information about condition other than a statement that is a ‘daily driver’. Stated to have 91,000 miles.

374706 noseGiulia Spider 1600 10123*374706 is in Staten Island New York. The price is $6101.07 with 3 bids at time of writing and the car has a buy it now price of $14,500. Vague description is shouted out in all caps and provides a decent baseline for questions. This car has a lot of above average quality pictures.

Market 120: 101 Giulietta Spider ‘not’ to restore

Update 6/1/09: It seems that I, or the multitude of red Spiders, scared the bidders off and this car ended at $18,100 with 35 bids, reserve not met.  I think better pictures and a ‘just the facts’ description would help it out.

Giulietta Spider 10103*171685, 1315*010467. This 1961 101 Spider was on eBay and ended last night at $18,100 reserve not met with 35 bids. The car has had lots of care recently but retains the charming if somewhat rustic patina I usually aspire to have my cars show.

171685 noseNose is a little chipped up but over-all the condition is good. Silver always looks good with chrome and clear lenses. Why are photobucket pictures always so bad?

Market 115: Gran Sport Quattroroute Zagato 4R

Update 5/26/09:  Sold for $53,000!  I can’t say if this was well bought or sold, but obviously someone wanted it at this price.

Gran Sport Quattroruote Zagato 4R 10123*393050, 00112*16491. This car is available right now on eBay and Anamera. I’ve never seen one in person that I can recall so I’m not sure how these pictures will translate into a large physical object , but it looks pretty cool in a pipe-smoking, tweed-wearing sort of way. The seller sums up the story of this odd Giulia cousin so I’ll spare you a rehash.

7737_12Kind of like Buck Rogers or any other long term sleeper, this staid gentleman finds itself out of place in the period dress of his time but youthful with the latest under its vintage inspired skin.

Market 113: Spider 10103*171443. Nice!

Update 5/13/09: $31,100 with 18 bidders was the result of the auction.  I told you this was a nice car.  Hopefully it finds a caring new home.

Giulietta Spider 10103*171443, 00102*28914 (now 00536*21681). This Spider is available now on eBay out of North Carolina. This is the rare Spider that has been allowed to be a nice old car. Sure there is an alluring shine on the red-because-I-was-made-that-way rather than resale-red paint. Admitted, the fog and headlights are wide of the mark and probably more was spent than an honest stone-chipped set of correct Carellos would have cost, but the overall feel of the car is that of a car appreciated and enjoyed by an owner who knows how special what they have is and took good care of it.

Spider 171443 noseLooking pretty good. There is an admirable shine on the hood, the trim is present and well fitted. Fog lights do look good in this position. Do all Spiders have windshield wipers that park in this position?

Market 110: One of the last 1300 Giulietta Spiders

Giulietta Spider 10103*370645. This car was available last week on Sacramento Craigslist, listed as a parts car to make an offer on. Seller stated the car was complete but rusty after having been sitting for years in various indoor and outdoor locations. The owner was the sellers father who finally admitted he was never going to get around to it.

giulietta spider AT LAST!!!If cars could talk, tell the story, relate the lonely years spent 15 feet from the open road, home to litters of kittens, mice and who knows what else while piled with boxes of ephemera waiting for either rebirth in the recycled form of Bob the singing big mouth bass on a Walgreen’s shelf or per chance another shot at the open road. Spider 370645 sees daylight for the first time in years, note it still has shackles on its chin.

Market 103: 10123*379585 Spider project

Update 4/14/09: Car sold for $9211 with 21 bidders not a bad result for the seller and depending on what the buyer wants, probably a good deal for them too.

Giulia Spider 10123*379585. This car is available right now on eBay out of San Luis Obispo with a low starting big and hopefully a reasonable reserve. These late 1600 Spiders were a last-ditch effort by Alfa and Pininfarina who was tooling up for the 105 Spider launch. While they lack some of the detail charm of their earlier siblings, they are probably the most easy going on the road due to the 1600 single carb engine, disk brakes and 5 speed.

379585 noseChrome and all looks smart. The hood gap is even all the way around and the paint has good shine.

Market 100: Late Spider project

Update 3/30/09: Auction ended with 13 bids and a closing price of $4250, reserve not met.  Considering the seller paid $1500 for it and is going for a quick flip, I would think this would be a perfectly acceptible price.  Oh well, look for this car to reappear on eBay and elsewhere until either the seller reconsiders how much they should take for it or someone who wants this exact car shows up.

Giulia Spider 101.23 AR392006, Engine 00112*15462. Car should probably be 379206. This car is on eBay right now at about $2700 with 2 days to go and Hemmings.com with an asking price of $7000. The seller Fat Dog frequently sells Alfa and other vintage parts so he knows his wares somewhat. There is a Fat Dog in Berkeley that owns a guitar shop, anyone know why a guy would call himself Fat Dog? Is it a Grateful Dead song reference?

bo6romqbmkkgrhgoh-csejlllzpb1bjdzhdz5_3Lookin’ not so good. Well, all things considered and for the right money this could be a decent place to start your quest to own a Giulia Spider, but with less rusty, near-to-running projects seemingly abounding these days and less than $10K, why not spend a little more and save yourself a lot of work. I know, there is a whole class of Alfa guy who prides themselves on bringing cars back, and for those guys this is perfect.

Market 96: Confused Spider in So Cal

Update 3/19/09: Car received 2 bids and with the reserve not met the auction was pulled in the 11th hour.

Giulia Spider 101.23 AR379169, Engine AR00536*07055 (not original). The eBay auction says 1965 Normale/Veloce and it is in about that order, a Normale with a Veloce engine and trunk badge from our friends at Sports Car LA. black plate, no rust, odd color and a $9500 starting bid.

used-1965-alfa_romeo-giulia-normale__slash___veloce-6818-3921364-3-640Looks like an honest Spider just how you used to find them.
