Market 140: Some Rough Sprints

These Giulietta Sprints are part of that group of cars stashed away by the owner of a car dealership in Kaufdorf.  The Swiss government has ordered the site cleaned up so the cars are being auctioned.  These Sprints range from massive projects to seemingly ‘ran when parked’ cars.  The Europeans seem to enjoy a good challenge, so maybe some if not all will be bought and put back on the road.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they all go to one buyer, like Joop Stolze, for reasonable money.

pa_06big11988This guy lost part of his nose ot cancer a long time ago.  Plenty of good parts here or ambitious project.

Off to Concorso Italiano

I’ll be at the Concorso Italiano with Brian in his Junior Z tomorrow so say hello if you see me wondering around. Below are some recent pictures I got in emails. The Sprint appears to have been the meat in a Semi pile up sandwich. The SS’s represent the full spectrum: Low-nose, Giulietta and Giulia.

My wife will be at Tiki Oasis in San Diego selling her hand-sewn children’s Hawaii inspired clothes. If you see her there tell her hi for me.

Sprint Remarkable only in that it still exists at all. There is probably $1000 worth of bit to be had off of it.

DSC_0459I want a low nose SS. I’ll take the bumpers off and drive it like I do my Sprint: daily and with joy.

Did I mention I was watching Dr. No and in the airport parking lot scene when the bad guys pull out they are parked in front of a Giulietta Spider?

I’ll be back on the TI on Saturday if anyone wants to come by and help rebuild the steering box and install it.

Market 129: 750D 05382 red Spider project

Update 10/12/09: 4 bids, $8650, reserve not met.  Kind of a bargain if it could be gotten around this price and you are not looking to go crazy ‘investing’ in a restoration.  I’d drive it in this shape.

Update 2009/08/13. This car is back on eBay. Some new and honest pictures showing the state of things have been added.  I wonder what happened to the $9000 BIN?

Update 2009/07/14: Apparently eBay was just used to get someone to email the seller and say “I’ll give you x dollars for it” because the auction was ended early. I received a reply that $9000 was the buy it now price so I’ll assume that is what it sold for.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*05382, 1315*44373. This red 1958 Spider project is on eBay right now out of Connecticut. Auction is minimal at best with the seller not even bothering to roll it out enough to take a picture of the back, but from what can be seen in the pictures it looks like a pretty solid example.

m129 noseThis is how you find them when they have been left alone. Would probably clean up and look pretty good with some polish and realignment of a few of the trim pieces.

TI Tidy Twenty-one: Burman ‘box comes out

Every two months or so I have to go afield for parts and as a result a box arrives from someone such as Centerline.  Some parts are not available new or repro and for that I call Larry at APE and usually he turns up what I need and it is reasonably priced.  On the fender below is a  combination of newly acquired stuff for the TI.  The big hose is defroster vent, the smaller is drain hose for the compartment that houses the windshield wiper motor.  The rubber parts are the transmission inner and outer boots.  In the middle are a pair of firewall grommet holders, a Bosch ignition with keys, a steering column rubber seal holder, a drivers side steering link hard stop, brake master cylinder line and a gear shift knob.

Before much of this finds its way on to the TI I need to remove the steering box since it is making clunking noises I can’t get rid of through normal adjustment and it can’t live with.  This is a scary job for me since I’ve never done it before and steering boxes have always been mysterious objects best left alone.

IMG_9207Not much is as exciting as a group of new parts, ready to install.

Market 134: 750F Spider Veloce

Update 8/10/09: This car sold for $24,700 with 7 bidders in the hunt.  The seller noted that the engine was incorrect and bidding seems to have taken this into account.  This money seems about right for the car.  There is a Veloce block on eBay right now that would be acceptible for this car, the new owner should consider snapping it up.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 1495*04178, 1315*44341.  This Spider Veloce is on eBay from Brighton Motorsports in Arizona.  It is listed as being numbers matching but it clearly has a Spider Normale series engine number, so either it’s not really a Veloce or the engine has been replaced.  I suspect the latter since it comes with all the Veloce components installed and the Veloce engines were known to fail if not properly maintained.  Also, Veloce’s tended to be built in pairs or groups and 04177 is a Veloce.  I’ll check d’A&T tonight and update.  I emailed the seller about this and they said they would note it on their auction but they haven’t yet.  Some discussion has been made of this car on the Yahoo group for these cars and other discrepancies have been pointed out.  d’Amico and Tabucchi say 04155 – 04229 are all Veloce’s so I think there is a good chance this car is a Veloce.

149504178 nose closeNose ridge is shapely and blends to the edge of the grill nicely.  Some guys take the stamped edge off the grill so there is a smooth transition between the body and trim.  Between the grill and drivers side over rider the paint looks bubbly or textured by being sprayed over crud.  Have a look before you buy.

Pushing Product 4: Models not included

You’ve all been waiting for this.  I know because more than anything else I get emails with links to PG-13  auctions.  Not too much ill-advised content here, just decent looking chicks hopefully earning a few easy bucks while trying to make some poor guy bid on the object at auction with his virility.

!aveo kit twosomeThis is a kit car based on a Chevy Aveo.  Girl on the right reminds me a bit of Christine Taylor.  This picture is all curves.  I wonder how much a gig like this pays?

Formal announcement: 1969 GTV 1530320

It might be slightly premature since I am waiting on a letter from Georgia DMV stating this car had no title issued due to its age, but since the money is spent and the garage space is filled I might as well go for it.  I bought this 1969 GTV, number 1530320, one of the six hundred some-odd US spec 69 GTV’s made, because hey, a deal you can’t refuse is exactly that.

gtv 1530320 front insideEvidence of the passage of time in ambivalent hands abounds.  That black scorched area is from when a garage-mate and cousin caught fire.  No one was hurt too bad and this guy is still healing.

Market 139: Low number Spider 750 D challenge

Update 8/10/09: 2 bidders, $51, reserve not met.  I’d give the seller $100 for the front suspension components without hesistation.  I have a feeling it will be a while before anyone decides to take this thing on.  Hopefully some kind soul will keep it out of the rain until then.

Giulietta Spider 750D 1495*00808.  Available out of San Rafael California on eBay right now is this project.  Early number is a draw for some Giulietta lovers, especially since it gives admission to many events open to 57 and before cars.  Doors, trunk and hood are included so $2500 buy it now is somewhat reasonable.

149500808 noseNot for the faint of heart finds definition here.  Must have been quite an accident.  I know of a Giulia SS like this.
