Market 300: Spider racer project in Florida

Giulietta Spider 10103*171108. This car is on eBay right now out of Florida.  Car would originally have had an 00102 series 1300 engine but auction includes a 00121 1600 Sprint Speciale/Spider Veloce engine and an unnumbered 1600 replacement block.  Price is $23,500 to start and seller expects local pick up only -good luck with that.
Car looks pretty cool.  Door and hood fit is excellent.  I wonder what provenance this has as a racer.

Market 253: Spider Veloce driver in SF Bay Area

Update 3/21/11: This car is now listed by the seller in Hemmings.  Price has been reduced to $32,000.  Not a bad deal!
Original post 8/25/10: Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107 1495*10201. This car is available now in the San Francisco Bay Area for $39,875.    The seller has owned the car since 1985 and has been using it since.  Engine in the car is not original and has been recently rebuilt but the original comes with the car.
Looks like a really nice patina on a well loved driver -the perfect compliment to my Sprint -alas I don’t have $40K burning a hole in my pocket…

Market 269: Nice Giulia SS in Colorado

Update 3/21/11: This car has (surprise surprise) ended up at a classic car dealer, with a 20% mark up.  See it here at Gullwing Motorcars for $59,500.  Lots of new pictures added to this cars photo set.
Looks good with a proper detail job!

Update 11/17/10:Failed to sell on eBay -reaching $40,544 with 20 bids.  What’s the story you ask?  Well, I think it probably has to do with the rust bubbles in the rockers.  These cars are not trivial to fix when they have rust and based on the pictures chances are this car will need rockers.  There is a pretty good discussion of this on the BB.  The end of the world?  No -but competent replacement followed by at minimum color matched paint will be more than $10K.  Do the math…
Update 11/11/10: On eBay!
Giulia SS 10121*381131, 00121*01052 (now 00112*15918). This car is listed on the Alfa BB as available for discussion and possible purchase if the price is right before it goes on eBay.  The BB post features a fairly comprehensive description and the pictures below.  I assume it will end up on eBay as sellers tend to want the max possible money and that is an unknown number until an auction is run.
Looks pretty good.  Red with gray interior is a nice combo.  Check for dings carefully after seeing it nestled so closely in with all that junk.

Market 297: Giulietta SS at Steutel

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00358. This car is available right now from Jan Steutel in the Netherlands.  Not much is said about the condition, but from the looks of it, it has seen some work.  I sold the previous owner a rear bumper spear that was a duplicate from my SS project, which is where I got the picture prior to paint and the VIN number.  Asking price is 14,500 Euro -not bad really if it’s as complete as stated.
SS body on a dolly in an industrial looking neighborhood.  The front fender wheel arch swooshes seem to have been trimmed or something.

Market 289: Giulia SS at Hyman

Update 3/18/11: Hyman has added a price to their website.  $175,000!  Yes, that’s right.  SS’s are now officially in the big leagues.

Update 3/10/11: Okay so this is the same car as market 283 -I thought so but wasn’t totally sure.  I guess It’s probably more like $100K.
Giulia SS (anyone know the number?). Andy let me know that Hyman Ltd. has this very well groomed car on offer right now for probably between $60,000 and $80,000.  I don’t know if I quite agree with the sellers assertion that a Sprint Speciale is a car it takes an Italian to appreciate.  I think everyone would appreciate an SS, for the fact that such an outlandish car was ever built if nothing else -whether they like its looks or not.
A nice example in the currently unpopular (because 10 years ago they all had to be) red.  Stance, shut lines, trim, glass -all look great.  Buy and enjoy, or invest and sit on it, either way you end up with a cool car.  Word to the investor:  use it occasionally.  Alfa made cars whose true beauty is felt from the drivers seat rather than shining on the grass in a public park, and driving is maintenance.

Project: Dads 1947 Chevrolet 3100 part 1

1947 Chevrolet 3100 Thriftmaster 6EPJ3165, original 216 engine, built in Oakland Ca, 65th 3100 made!
Okay, I know what you’re thinking, but hey, if you like other old cars besides Alfa Romeo’s, raise your hand.  I thought so.  I’m not alone here.  Here’s the story: around the time I was born (late 1972 for those who don’t know me outside of my ramblings here) my dad brought home this truck.  It was owned since new by a local Blacksmith shop.  I doubt my dad paid much for it.  Over the years I rode around in it with him, notably driving several times from San Bernadino California to Bremerton Washington (some 1200 miles -just under 2000 km for my rest-of-the-world readers) for Christmas visits with my grand parents.  It always started right up and got us wherever we were going.  I can still remember the sounds and smells of riding in this truck -last time I was in it when it ran was probably in about 1990.
This truck has been waiting a good 20 years to get back on the road.  That sign on the door is pretty sweet.  Funny how memories of something like this truck can be so strong when other stuff so easily fades.  As a kid I would climb all over this thing and the metal was so thick I doubt I made even the slightest dent.

Market 294: SS Low-nose 10120*00078 (sold)

Update 3/18/11: The seller sent me more pictures so click on the link below (the vin) to check them out.
Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00078, 00120*00029.  I get emails all the time from people with Giulietta’s of all stripe, this is the first Low-nose SS.  Dimitrios in Greece commented on the site then followed with an email with these pictures attached.  I was in the middle of a busy February (11 days in Spain, driving across the USA in a moving van etc) and by the time I got around to writing about this car it has been sold -or at least a hand-shake agreement has been made for its sale.
Early 70’s Spider nose fits surprisingly well.  Wheels are late 101 Borrani’s if I’m not mistaken.  It also looks like the windshield trims, front and back are missing.  I used to have extras.

Market 293: '61 Spider Veloce Ex-Carrera Panamerica

Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107*170380. This car is on eBay right now and has been featured on Bringatrailer.  Eduardo (seller) sent me a bunch of pictures you can see if you follow the vin link.  Engine is a later 2 liter and a lot of modifications have been done that make it ineligible for most vintage race series, but with a few creature comforts added this would make a great event car.  Email me of you can’t extract the sellers info from the above links.
Looks like it should for a rally/race car.  Hood is a later Giulia 1600 item, no doubt used to help clear the 2 liter.  The silver lines seen through the grills are the edges of a big radiator.

Market 184: project Sprint 02880

Update 3/15/11: This car is now on eBay being sold out of  Michigan.  No new pictures are available.
More information on early style 750B Sprints.
2/2/10: Giulietta Sprint 750B 1493*02880, 1315*02671. This car, a 1956, is available right now from the seller of Market 179, another early Sprint project.  Asking price for the pair is about $27,000.  I can put you in contact with the seller if you want to figure out a separate price.
Paint was removed to assess body condition.  Looks fairly straight under the current splotch.  Is that a Jolly beside it? Continue reading “Market 184: project Sprint 02880”
