SS 10121 380548: where are you now?

I heard from Russ that he sold Sprint Speciale 380548 in the early 2000’s and it changed hands a few times quickly there after including a trip through eBay.  Anyone here have this car now?  I ask because the original engine can be made available to the current owner.

Market 493: Spider Veloce 10107 167610 for sale… no expense spared, no excuses

This car has appeared at Fantasy Junction and they have put it on eBay.  I saw it in person today and it is a thing of beauty.

Giulietta Spider Veloce 10107 167610.  Tom Sahines in the San Francisco Bay Area has put this fine specimen of a Spider Veloce on the market.  Tom has been the ARA tech hotline for as long as I can remember, and has deep knowledge of Alfa’s cars from Giulietta to 164 and probably beyond.  I’ve seen some of his restorations in person and they are astonishingly nice.  Ever the engineer, astonishingly nice to look at is not Tom’s main goal; astonishingly nice to drive is.  An unusual goal in a world where cars for resale tend to get the minimum attention to functionality.

The asking price is $140,000.  This may seem high, but a 750D in similar condition sold at Scottsdale for $140K.

All the usual praise applies: great panel fit, impeccable bright-work and lust inspiring luster.  Yes please!

Market 169: ’58 Spider Veloce survivor

Update 4/28/14: The owner of 04351 contacted me and reports that a restoration was completed about 18 months ago and It is currently being enjoyed in the South West.  He intended to keep the car as original as possible, but after digging in it became apparent there was more to do than anticipated and it slid down the usual slippery slope towards a full, though sympathetic towards its original state restoration.

Update 4/24/14:  I am currently going through close to 1000 Alfa Romeo sale records, verifying them for publication on The Fuelist, and I came across this charming specimen among the raw data.  I remember watching it reach $50,000 after some last minute aggressive bidding, and thinking – “Wow, these have hit the big time!”  Looking back from this moment, five years later, this car appears to have been very well bought.  Anyone here a proud owner?  Where is 04351 now??

Market 492: Sprint 10102 24709 -Gone in 60 seconds

Giulietta Sprint 10102*24709, 00102*17231.  This fellow was listed at Fantasy Junction in their new arrivals, and it went from there directly to their Sold listings.  I stopped by to ask Spencer about it and he told me they put it on their site and had a deposit that day.  Asking was $52,500 and they got a thick hair below that.  Tom Sahines recently did some work on it (a good thing!) for the seller, and it looks to be very nice looker/driver.  Someone is in for some fun with a good looking blond.

It’s funny to be putting fresh eyes on a Market Report – it’s been a while since I did more than a quick one.  Everything here looks tidy and proper.  I wonder how they get the licorice rope edging to stay on the car?  You can see mine on the header above is lifting.

The Fuelist is live!

The hush-hush project I have been working on since last Spring, that has taken all the time I used to devote to giuliettas.com, is now live!

Screen Shot 2014-03-22 at 2.30.38 PM

Over the last 5 years I have spent a lot of time thinking of better ways to display Giulietta sales records on this site.  In February 2013 I was having a conversation about this problem with two friends I was working with at a start up when the idea came to us: lets build a Redfin/Zillow type tool where you could find classic vehicle sales comps for classic and specialty motorcycles and cars.  Not editorial on sales, not links to disparate data sources, but the hard facts of the transaction extracted from these sources, parsed, and made immediately graphically accessible to anyone.

The three of us officially started the business, and between April 2013 and August 2013 the project was worked on by a single part-time developer, and by us on late nights and other stolen hours until an old friend put us in touch with public company The Chancellor Group (CHAG), who saw merit in what we were trying to do and bought a stake in the company.  With cash in the bank we went into full focus, assembled a team and building what you see when you go to www.thefuelist.com.

Details of a Giulia Sprint 10112 sale.  One of you probably owns this car!

For a classic vehicle sale record to make the cut, it must have a verifiable sale price and a minimum of information about the vehicle.  We built a vehicle database of model attributes so we could supply the user with more information than a seller typically includes in a sale, and to power filters users could select to refine results to only the attributes they are interested in.  If you look at the tool you will get an idea what these are.  These refinement tools will be rolling out over the next few months.

A key feature is the ability to graph up to 4 models or model groups simultaneously to see how prices compare, have changed over time, and what you can buy for the same money among the different models.  Graphing all Giuliettas and Porsche 356s together demonstrates this nicely.  We are working on trend lines at the moment, but it’s turned out to be a very complex problem.

Each record is curated by hand, so there will be the inevitable human errors creeping in, but we have feedback mechanisms in place for users to report such errors.  We currently have just under 20,000 such records, but now that we are shifting away from deep development, resources will shift to capturing more sales records (there are many thousands in the pipeline). I have yet to go through and enter all the verified Giulietta sales from this blog, but I will eventually get to it.

Please come check the site out and give us some feedback!  We will be launching full scale, with all features enabled in early April.

Market 491: Giulietta Sprint Veloce 07987 on CL

Giulietta Sprint Veloce 750E 07987.  I would be very interested in this car on my local Craigslist if I didn’t already have 5 car projects, a 2 year old son and a business that is about to launch.  Car is complete in most of the ways that count except the engine is not matching. Seller is looking to get something in the low to mid teens for it.  A good deal I think and probably a car I will regret passing on someday, but so it goes.

You were just complaining about how you never see Veloce projects anymore right?

1956 Spider shell for sale in Belgium

JP in Belgium has this car for sale.  Contact him if you’re interested!

“Early 750D Spider shell, it is most certainly a ’56 model and one of the first 1000 made, given that it has a ribbed scuttle with the half moon recess for the back of the air filter can.

The car took a hit on the left front fender & left front wheel, hard enough to put a small kink into the lower chassis rail and to crunch the left front fender far enough to crease the left edge of the bonnet. The left headlight pod was also flattened. We presume the VIN was subsequently cut out and grafted into another car along with all the bits to keep the owner ‘rolling’ without troubling the authorities…..

Owner has a spare left front fender & nose from a donor car, enough to replace the damaged panels. The lower chassis rail can be straightened by a competent body man. The tricky part will be the missing VIN number, but the rest of the body shell is still in good condition,

Dry stored in a warehouse in Belgium. The early 750D Spider shell is looking for a new owner who is willing to tackle the project.  Images here.

Information: please contact      jpduhem@hotmail.com

Asking price: 4000 € ono ”

Veloce Marelli distributor for sale

Update: I got a huge response to this and have been too busy to respond to all.  How does $360 shipped to continental US sound?  First to come is first served!

I was rooting around looking for some brake parts and came across a Veloce Marelli distributor complete with new points, rotor and cap that I had been saving for a rainy day (when it was raining a Veloce my way). Anyone out there looking for one? Drop me a line. All proceeds go to getting my Spider on the road. I’ll post a picture tomorrow…
