Market 559: Sprint Speciale 10120*00512 sold through Gooding & Company

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00512, 00112*15369 This car sold through Gooding & Company during the Monterey / Pebble Beach annual fancy carstravaganza I seem to miss every year. Estimate was $90,000 – $120,000 and the car sold for $67,200. Add buyers premium of 12% (I think this is right) and you get a price paid of $75,264. I’m not sure what to make of this sale price. I have seen wrecks sell for $50,000, though not in the last few years. Even with the incorrect 1600 engine, racing stripes, and patina, I’d have guessed a sale price in the low end of the estimate. Is the market soft, or is this car not as good as it looks?

The racing inspired stripe will definitely have put off some buyers. Paint is as **ain’t cheap** as it ever was, so if you don’t want the stripe it’ll cost you. I’d drive this thing!

I can’t tell if it’s the ground or some trick of the shape, but the car appears to be slightly lower on the drivers side front corner. Maybe it was set up for a copilot of unusual size (and weight).

I can’t tell which of the possible alloy wheels these are. Anyone? Some plastic yellowing of the trunk badge.

This all looks nice. The Gooding watermark makes it look like the passenger side window crank is broken off.

Yeah, it could stand some detailing, but it doesn’t cost that much to get new ducting. Looks more like a 1600 SS from under the hood. What it lacks in original it will make up for in fun if the 1600 was built to a Veloce spec. One could spend years chasing down the parts to get this back to original.

In my opinion this car was the perfect buy for one of the few guys out there who would want an SS they can drive (and that ought to be fast), don’t care too much about originality, and don’t want to be too far out of pocket getting that driver. Though I haven’t been writing much on Giuliettas.com the last few years, I have been fielding questions that start with “Should I buy this … or that… ” and I usually respond, don’t over pay for non original. Whoever bought this did alright in that regard I think.
