1700 GT: Ate clutch slave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hardest part of fixing up a car with very little support is the odd model-specific OEM part.\u00a0\u00a0 The Glas GT has just such a part in its clutch slave cylinder, an Ate item.\u00a0 My car came with one -a bit of good luck if you will, but it was VERY frozen and just generally not an encouraging prospect for clutching.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/14\/automobiles\/14LATHE.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaan<\/a> was confident it would come apart and sure enough, it did.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/img_0652.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9881\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The thing about hydraulic pressure is, it doesn&#8217;t really take no for an answer, so long as the question has enough pressure to force the recalcitrant part to answer.\u00a0 In this case I cleaned it, we applied serious cutting-torch type heat, and then we hooked it up to a 2 ton bottle jack.\u00a0 We let it sit at about 100 PSI over night and the next morning, a little pump on the jack saw the cylinder pop out. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/img_0678.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9883\" title=\"IMG_0678\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>I decided to plate the newly apart cylinder in Zinc.\u00a0 Here it is going in the degrease tank.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/img_0679.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9884\" title=\"IMG_0679\" src=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/img_0679.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Twenty minutes later, the cylinder is pretty clean.\u00a0 Zinc leaves the part gray.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/img_0680.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A bit of pitting can be seen on the bore, it would probably work, but I hate to put it all together and find out not.\u00a0 I doubt this can be sleeved.\u00a0 Will have to \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the cute little guy.\u00a0 I would be very happy to find an NOS one of these.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t take any pictures, but I decided to try and plate just the inside of the bore so I could hone it back down and hope the pits were filled.\u00a0 I screwed up and had too much current so the plating flaked off.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try again tomorrow.\u00a0 Anyone have an idea of a clutch slave that might work?\u00a0 It&#8217;s about 30mm OD.\u00a0 An Alfa clutch slave looks similar but is 30% bigger than
