Spider Coupe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Update 6\/26\/08<\/strong>: Yet a second comment, this one from someone who knows Mr. Coune and asked him if he made this car.\u00a0 Mr. Coune says this is not his work.\u00a0 I am not surprised because I don&#8217;t think the work on this car is up to the standard that can be seen on his MGB based\u00a0coupe or Volvo Amazon convertibles.\u00a0\u00a0Does anyone have any information on this car?\u00a0 Please leave a comment or email me at <a href=\"mailto:sprints@giuliettas.com\">sprints@giuliettas.com<\/a> so the mystery can be solved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 6\/23\/08<\/strong>: Received a comment from someone familiar with Coune who says this car is not his work.\u00a0 Whether the Coune connection was a pure fabrication on the part of the seller or a reiteration of a claim by someone else is somewhat immaterial in my opinion.\u00a0 Regardless of who made it\u00a0and under what circumstances it is more odd than beautiful and will have difficulty finding a new home at a restored Giulia Spider price.\u00a0 If anyone knows more about this car please comment or send me an email at sprints@giuliettas.com.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Original post: <\/strong>Another foray into international eBay, this time French, \u00a0turned up this odd\u00a0one-off coupe based on Pininfarinas\u00a0101 Giulietta Spider.\u00a0 Asking price is 17,500 Euro&#8217;s, about $27,000.\u00a0 Sellers description is &#8220;ALFA ROMEO Giulietta Spider 1960 Coachbuilder Jacques Coune or factory ????? I have been told 3 are existing.\u00a0 Car is running and is all original .Body generally sound . Needs restoration . Engine is original but gearbox is not (5 speed) French documents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not a bad looking car\u00a0combining a late-60&#8217;s Italian budget coupe sort of Kamm tail rear with the always pleasing Giulietta Spider.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not really a convertible guy, having suffered sunburned nose after sunburned nose over the two years when an Austin Healey Frog\/Bug-eye Sprite was\u00a0my daily\u00a0hack,\u00a0but have often thought about how nice it would be to have a coupe version of some of the attractive convertibles I&#8217;ve tried to convince myself I could live with.\u00a0 Harrington did it successfully (from a styling standpoint) for\u00a0some of the British main-stays like the TR4 and Alpine\u00a0so I guess it&#8217;s no surprise someone made a coupe out of a Pininfarina Giulietta Spider, despite the existence of the Bertone\u00a0Sprint coupe.\u00a0 I guess\u00a0this is the point where I admit to having fantasized about welding a GTV roof on a Duetto, good thing\u00a0either of those cars is too expensive to consider doing something like that to.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/6a77_1.jpeg\"><img much looks like your standard 101 1600 Spider wearing an after-market hard top from this angle.\u00a0 Might be an earlier 1300 Spider with the 1600 &#8216;scoop&#8217; ride height issue in the rear is not really helping this design, I think it would look better with a more aggressive, lower stance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a flip is fairly pronounced in a Ferrari 275 sort of way, rear glass appears to be a Giulietta Sprint piece.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a even be a little of the Opel GT back there.\u00a0 I would guess it was modified in the late 60&#8217;s when this style of tail was seen on a lot of cars like the OSI 20M coupe pictured below.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/800px-ford_osi_20_m_ts_coupe_h_silver_tce.jpeg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><strong>Note the rear corner window and general layout similarities between the two cars.\u00a0 Osi is obviously more angular, but an angular top on the Spider would clash with the round 50&#8217;s styling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did a quick search on Coachbuilder Jacques Coune and found a short website with a few examples of his work, unfortunately nothing is mentioned about any customized Alfas.\u00a0 There is a neat\u00a0MGB special he built that is restored and makes appearances around Europe and two Volve Amazon convertibles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/coune_workshop.jpeg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-525\" src=\"http:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/coune_workshop.jpeg?w=282&#038;resize=282%2C221\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><strong>The workshop of Coune with a (or perhaps the) MGB special being built.\u00a0 What tool is the worker holding?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what to say about the value of this car.\u00a0 It is certainly rare if it was indeed built by Coune and has value based on this rarity, but in my opinion it&#8217;s too quirky to be desired for its beauty.\u00a0 I think the right buyer, with the right budget and a willingness to modify it just enough to make it beautiful could turn this into a very desirable car.\u00a0 The seller just has to find that person.<\/p>\n<p><a
