It’s not often a lifetime collection (or is it an accumulation?)\u00a0comes to market<\/a>, and even more rare that it is a true enthusiast for the thing collected. \u00a0The seller of this collection is the son of the owner, trying to help his dad sell off his stuff to fund a move to a sunnier climate. \u00a0When I first saw the eBay listing I reached out for more info – especially considering there was clearly a “first thousand” Spider pictured. \u00a0Check it out:<\/p>\n

The cars. \u00a0What are they cousins? \u00a0Brothers? \u00a0Three generations of the same family. \u00a0Let me take a stab at it: 1956, 1960, 1975 and 1958.<\/b><\/p>\n

Legitimate enthusiast?- absolutely. \u00a0Gerald Grubb spent a few years showing more expensive, supposedly faster sports cars what a great looking trunk line the might Spider Veloce had. \u00a0This car is not among those for sale. \u00a0Not sure what happened to it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lets start with the 1975.<\/p>\n

Well, these have come into their own if my occasional noticing has any indication. \u00a0Not a $40,000 car by any stretch, but neither an eight hundred bucker -more a $4000 car or so if it’s rust free and not far from running. \u00a0I expect this car will have negative impact on the sale price since the buyer will want the early cars and consider it a liability that needs to be towed. \u00a0I could see accreting the early Spiders, but…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now, the best the lot… a 1956 Spicer 750D with a very likely matching number engine and essentially rust free.<\/p>\n

This is a “holy grail” (if you are inclined to believe in\u00a0superstitious\u00a0stuff) car. \u00a0Mid-year 1956 matching number Spider, not much rust, seemingly untouched for at least the last 30 years. \u00a0I’m not in the market, but if I was? \u00a0I’d be all over this!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"s-l1600<\/a> Funny how the years compress. \u00a0Looks like a car that has been around for years, used a little, basically uncared for. \u00a0Paint over spray on harness and parts = who cares for 50 years and then now? Protective coating.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fifty eight…<\/p>\n

Painted 30 years ago and… nothing. \u00a0Rust free car without original engine, but a choice of “probably good enough” options included. \u00a0Rock on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’ve had crappy Spiders. \u00a0This is sort of “upper\u00a0echelon\u00a0crappy Spider”. \u00a0Nice to have the Celeste panels. \u00a0That’s either a REALLY clear, or non existent windshield. \u00a0I’ll bet on non existent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leaky everything\u00a0inadvertently inhibits rust.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I like the blue. \u00a0Hard to believe someone chose French’s mustard yellow over \u00a0Dutch or is it French blue. \u00a0Oddly a nice color combo: French’s yellow and French blue. \u00a0If I was a kid I’d think of the combo in terms of American football team color combos…<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are tens of pictures like this of included parts. \u00a0That’s the 00102 block. \u00a0Both those jacks are early, one has the concentric rings base, the other the star shaped.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So value? \u00a0Well, do you have a big truck, space and time? \u00a0The Euro is cheap, are you going to let these go to Belgium? \u00a0I expect the final sale value will be roughly the value of the ’56 and ’58, with the other two thrown in for free – and a lot of parts that don’t have anything to do with any of these will be included.<\/p>\n

If I was near by, had space and had two hours to rub together I’d buy this lot. \u00a0I’d detail the 1975 and see it off first. \u00a0Then I’d clean and bolt together all three, with the best parts going to the 1956, then the 1958 then the 1960. \u00a0I’d sell off the 1958 and 1960 and any parts I didn’t need for the 1956, and probably end up with a near free 1956.<\/p>\n
