{"id":13559,"date":"2015-10-30T08:56:03","date_gmt":"2015-10-30T15:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/giuliettas.com\/?p=13559"},"modified":"2015-10-30T08:56:03","modified_gmt":"2015-10-30T15:56:03","slug":"market-521-sva-750e-02159-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/2015\/10\/30\/market-521-sva-750e-02159-in-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Market 521: SVA 750E 02159 in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Giulietta Sprint Veloce 750E 1493*<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/26218757@N06\/albums\/72157660515964091\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">02159<\/a>, 1315*30114, *77*101*. \u00a0<\/strong>This car is available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anamera.com\/en\/detail\/car\/380899\/index.html?no_cache=1&amp;ret=63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now<\/a> out of Germany. \u00a0Price is available <em>on request<\/em> which means it&#8217;s expensive, and the seller knows what they are selling. \u00a0This car is said to have been restored in the late 1980&#8217;s in Italy with Maurizio Tabucchi (yes, the same guy who co-authored the book I quote in almost every post) giving input on originality, and \/ or perhaps even owning it for some time.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to realize that this is not *just* a Veloce. \u00a0It&#8217;s a Veloce when Veloce actually meant something really really (really) special &#8211; they were made to race, not give buyers a performance option they would seldom tap. \u00a0SVA&#8217;s are generally regarded as somewhat homologous through their 600 &#8211; 610 unit production, but really the evolution that resulted in the SV Confortevole started after perhaps 200 cars being produced. \u00a0Magnesium became aluminum etc. \u00a0It would be interesting to see a scholarly work analyzing car to car changes, but at this point the cars are all largely restored to the capricious tastes of rich owners, and even in the cars youth, parts were swapped around feverishly in pursuit of Targa Florio mountain climb advantages etc. \u00a0The parts book is thorough to a fault in a general way, but with the Veloce&#8217;s it just couldn&#8217;t capture the nuance of car to car production. \u00a0Even a car like this which appears to be very original, likely hides some liberties taken for performance or expedience when it was restored.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I am saying I really like this car.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/cf06df57af.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13574\" src=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/cf06df57af.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"cf06df57af\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/cf06df57af.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/cf06df57af.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/cf06df57af.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>This color -typically called Francia (French) Blue, seems to be quite popular for the Sprint Veloce Alleggerita &#8211; especially the early ones for some reason. \u00a0d&#8217;Amico and Tabucchi list available colors for these as: Alfa Red, Gardenia White, Iseo Blue and Black &#8211; not sure why Francia blue is not included. \u00a0Headlight trims, grill eyebrows, bumpers and other assorted trim were in aluminum on these cars, as were the hood, doors and trunk. \u00a0Overall weight savings from these and other changes was around 110 kg. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/004ed7d37e.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13568\" src=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/004ed7d37e.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"004ed7d37e\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/004ed7d37e.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/004ed7d37e.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/004ed7d37e.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rear windscreen and all side windows are perspex. \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure exactly what that material would be in terms of the mid 1950&#8217;s official material names. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plastics4performance.com\/alfa-romeo-giulietta-sprint-veloce-lightweight-lexan-full-window-kit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lexan kits are available today<\/a> and pretty reasonable!\u00a0 Wheels are Borrani.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>These are the second of three types of tail lights that Sprints wore over the years -two by Carello and one by Lucas. \u00a0They hadn&#8217;t produced any Veloce&#8217;s when the first Carello type were phased out at car 00550. \u00a0These were only used on Sprints, while the Lucas type were used through car 06611 and shared with the 750D and 750F Spiders through about mid 1958. \u00a0Lucas were intended for US market (and maybe others). \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/5ed198599e.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13569\" src=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/5ed198599e.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"5ed198599e\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/5ed198599e.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/5ed198599e.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/5ed198599e.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Numbers. \u00a0Body type 77 means lightweight. \u00a0E after 1493 means Veloce. \u00a0Wire grommets are usually held to the firewall by cheese head screws. \u00a0Bolts holding the airbox mounting straps are usually Lobo brand. \u00a0Can&#8217;t see here if they are, but they don&#8217;t look like it to me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/6de7eb5369.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13570\" src=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/6de7eb5369.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"6de7eb5369\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/6de7eb5369.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/6de7eb5369.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/6de7eb5369.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Original build plate. \u00a0Engine is 30114. \u00a0Body is 77101. \u00a0114 and 101 should be close at this point in production, but it would be unusual for them to match. \u00a0They probably matched occasionally for the earliest examples, but this car was probably made around the time the Spider Veloce 750F program was starting and some of the 3XXXX series Veloce engines were being diverted to the Spider Veloce line. \u00a0Greig suggests there could also have been numbers pulled from the sequence to replace catastrophically failed units, and some of the &#8216;out of sequence&#8217; item here appears to be from Bosch. \u00a0These days, a lot of guys reverse the path of the two intakes on the drivers side of the engine compartment, piping air to the cabin from the front opening and running the duct under the engine intake duct which connects to the rear opening. \u00a0Plenum appears to be an original magnesium alloy! item, probably with matching magnesium oil pan. \u00a0Plenum has a hex nut instead of a wing nut. \u00a0A few trivial non-originalities. \u00a0Who cares? \u00a0I have a spare Veloce distributor if it needs one&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/e11965137f.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13575\" src=\"https:\/\/giuliettas.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/e11965137f.jpg?resize=525%2C394\" alt=\"e11965137f\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/e11965137f.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/e11965137f.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rufushamilton.com\/giuliettas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/e11965137f.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last of the numbers. \u00a0These engines made a lot of power from the factory and even more when given over to tuners such as Conrero. \u00a0Reader Steve suggests as many as 1 in 5 of the early engines self destructed during competition. \u00a0Further evidence of the rarity of &#8220;matching numbers&#8221; and a reason to not really care about it given an early Veloce. \u00a0 I&#8217;ll take provenance over perfect originality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a really sweet car in my opinion. \u00a0There can&#8217;t be more than a handful of SVA&#8217;s in the world that aren&#8217;t restored to better than new and look like the <a href=\"http:\/\/mag.nobleandroyal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/PatekPhilippeBacgroundScaleogy.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inside of a Philippe Patek<\/a>\u00a0watch. \u00a0Well, there can&#8217;t be more than a handful of these left in any condition I suppose, so if you have the funds go for it. \u00a0I sure would. \u00a0Anyone feeling generous?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giulietta Sprint Veloce 750E 1493*02159, 1315*30114, *77*101*. \u00a0This car is available now out of Germany. \u00a0Price is available on request which means it&#8217;s expensive, and the seller knows what they are selling. \u00a0This car is said to have been restored in the late 1980&#8217;s in Italy with Maurizio Tabucchi (yes, the same guy who co-authored &hellip;
