As found…<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Exhibit A:\u00a0 1972 Porsche 914 1.7.\u00a0 This was my uncle\u2019s car.\u00a0 He bought it in 1975.\u00a0 The engine and transmission were rebuilt in 1978 by Barry Daniels \u2013 an ex-racer of Porsches who balanced and blue-printed it, converting it to Webers, high compression Euro pistons, modified the gearing etc.\u00a0 It\u2019s way fast \u2013 2 liter in a Giulietta Spider fast.\u00a0 Original interior is really clean, it has zero rust and a most excellent set of 15×6 ATS wheels.\u00a0 It\u2019s lowered, has custom sway bars and Bilsteins front and back.\u00a0 California smog law that came into effect in 1984 forced it off the road until they rolled the cut-off year to 1975, but he had lost interest in it by then.\u00a0 I remember walking by it in his garage a bunch of times as a kid.\u00a0 I knew it would end up in my possession some day \u2013I had been asking him about it at family events the last few years and he would say \u201cyeah, someday\u201d.\u00a0 Someday came back in July.\u00a0 Fluids changed, clutch freed up and vroom.\u00a0 It has a few unfortunate dents, and will get painted someday, but I don\u2019t mind it as it is.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Odd steering wheel.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I need a tweed coat and scarf.<\/strong><\/p>\n Exhibit B: \u00a0Austin Healey 3000 1962 BT7 tri-carb. \u00a0An old friend used to drive this around in my hometown of Benicia when I was a kid.\u00a0 I\u2019d see him and think he looked like a millionaire driving it.\u00a0 Oddly, the same week that saw my uncle offer me the Porsche, he offered me the AH.\u00a0 It\u2019s entirely rust free \u2013rust-freer than any I have ever seen that wasn\u2019t restored.\u00a0 It had been occupying the left side of his garage since about 2000 when it was deemed not fit to drive any longer.\u00a0 Turned out to have a loose harmonic balancer that was in turn a loose lower timing gear that had been nibbling away at the woodruff key that positioned it on the crank until it had about 5-10 degrees of free play resulting in all sorts of weird symptoms.\u00a0 Runs great now. \u00a0I\u2019m in the market for a hard top.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
